Here is my "Custom" chopped lab, got some beagle in her.  When I'm walking her, people think she is a lab puppy, her body never grew into her big Ol' feet.

My first dog, 1970, was a black lab named Springerly.

My second dog was a yellow lab named Marmalade's Private Reserve, we just called him Private.

I had to put Private down in 1992 due to cancer and I haven't had another dog since.

Sometimes you just can't replace a dog, and maybe it seems disrespectful to the dog's memory to try.

I had a female lab mix named "Matey".  She was small and full of curiosity- very intelligent.  I used to bring her with me to the boat landing, and she would play in the water while I fooled with getting the boat launched.  As soon as I had the boat off the trailer, she would hop in the boat and wait.  One time she actually caught a sizely mullet in midair and dropped it in the boat.  Very cool Mutt.

She zoned in on a squirrel on the side of a busy highway one day and never lived to catch it.  That was rough.

I've since acquired a miniature weiner dog.  I didn't choose her, she chose me really.  She wants nothing to do with being outside, much less the boat, but she's real cool.  I'm happy with her, and she'll live a long time because she plays it safe.

I don't think I could ever own another lab.
