Fishin's On Fire
« on: November 02, 2010, 07:29:08 PM »
Fellas, the fishin is on fire around here.  We started out of Bay Pines and headed towards johns pass.  Took 2 casts and had plenty of green backs to fish live bait, and lots of chum. Headed out the pass towards the hard bottom about 1mi off the beach.  Frigate birds, seagulls and pelicans were everywhere.  First bait in the water was instantly slammed by a big mackerel.  Every bait there after produced fish after fish, with lots of break off's in between. (I use mono leader with a long shank hook)

On one of the last mackerel of the day, I had a huge barracuda chomp 3/4 of a 5lb mackerel.  I quickly re-hooked the head on a larger rod/reel combo in attempt to hook the cuda, but no luck. We ended up leaving the chunk of mackerel in the rod holder and continued to fish.  Before we knew it the clicker starter screaming and my buddy picked up the rod, and put it in gear. The fish started screaming.  We were thinking big king fish and then......

...Huge spinner shark leaps from the water.  He jumped about 7 more times and spinning faster than a top.  We ended up fighting him for 45 mins, before he finally gave up.  What a strong fish.  We had a hell of a time all withing 4 hours of fishing.

look at the hook set

macks at the dock.

Well done, Scott!  Gonna use Lewis' recipe on those macs?  Says it makes them like candy...

Nice.  I caught a large spinner once.  Better aerials than any tarpon.   :thumright:

Good Job Scott!   I went out in Sunday and didn't fair well.  Wrong spots or there were Dive boats where ever we went.

Nice catch!  That shark was twin brothers of different mothers to the one we had up here. Exactly the same size....good stuff.....
