Trim Tabs for 215 Explorer

I am looking in to getting some trim tabs for my 215 explorer. Wanted to get some opinions on what size and which ones to go with (elec or Hyd) and why?

There is no customer service on Earth better than Bennett Trim Tabs.

Call Bennett and ask for Tom McGow.  Tell him what you have and he will recommend the proper size.  I have taken his recommendation on 3 different boats in the last 10 years and he has been dead on each time.

+1 on the Bennett trim tabs.

JJ is right. Bennett has three factors you should consider.

1. As JJ stated, excellent product. They work and continue to work for years with minimal maintenance.
2. Detailed installation instructions. Basic wrenching skills, self confidence, and reading comprehension is all you need.
3. IMHO, as JJ stated, the best Customer Service of any boating product I've ever purchased and used.

I can't speak for electrical tabs. They may work as well or better but the hydraulics have performed flawlessly on my CCP for 17 years and currently show no signs of doing anything less. They cost a few coin but compared to what they do, it's money well spent. Remember, these aren't ABS rod holders. They are a functioning part of your boat's propulsion system, ride quality and safety under changing sea conditions.

While Bob and JJ are correct about Bennetts, both from a performance standpoint and a CS standpoint, don't overlook Lencos.  IMO, an easier install, and they have improved the sealing methods in the actuator to prevent water intrusion which has been a problem in the past.  CS is also way up there...

Lencos are fine,my dad has them on his boat,he went tru two actuators within the first year but crap happens and like Bob said they upgraded them and no problems since,my biggest grip is they are 10 times more noisy then my Bennetts,oh and in 13 years not a problem one with my Bennetts.

I'll leave the hydraulic vs electric questions for others to answer since I'm a little biased  

As far as size goes I would recommend the following; Bennett 10" x 12" M120s.  I installed a set of these on my 20 foot Aquasport walkaround. Or 12" x 12" or 18" x 9" Bennett, Lenco, Lectrotab, or Boat Leveler systems.  Trim tabs in these size ranges will give the best results for your 215.

i put 9x12 lenco on my 215 explorer no maintenance i love em made a world of difference on the hull
