245 openfish osprey
« on: October 27, 2010, 03:56:22 PM »
I bought my 1999 245 osprey with a 225 evinrude ficht last year. I bought this boat knowing that this engine was garbage. I had to rebuilt the computer, fuel injectors, starter, etc etc. im thinking of repowering and i would like to know max enigine weight that can be put on the transom. when i make the change i would like to go with the most hp i can without affecting the boat or stability. i love the way this boat handles. Does anyone out there have the specs. i know max hp is 300, but i would like to go 4 stroke and im affaid that would be to heavy. thanks

When she was built, she was speced for twin 150s, either OMCs, Mercs, or Yams.  No single 300s back then.  so, assuming, on the light side, that a single Yam SWII 150 weighs 400 lbs., twins would bring you in at 800 lbs., which she was rated for.  A Yam 350 4-S weighs 804, a Verado 350, 662 lbs...

I'd re-rig with a Zuke 300...

And yes, I did build your boat...even hung and rigged your motor.  Sorry it crapped out! :(

Thank you seabob4, I will probably take your recommendation to go with a zuke 300. i have heard nothing but good about them. A 350 will be way to much power. Im looking for a little more speed than with that 225 but i do not want to tear up the boat in the process. I love my boat and plan to keep her for a long time. thanks for your input and im sure ill have more questions in the future.

As lewis, Doc, Scott, JJ, Cap'n Bob, and Cap'n John would say (I'll exclude myself)...

If you re familiar with Photobucket, it's just a matter of copying the [img] url under the pic, then pasting in your message...

If this is a bit much, send me the pics at seabob4@tampabay.rr.com, and I'll get them up here...

Like the Teleflex/Seastar manual:

"Before you do it your way, try our way first"

Couldn't hurt.

Tony, she's a beaut!!  See rubrail has been replaced from original, love the plain boot-stripe graphic.  Looks like an after-market top, although I notice no grabrail around the windscreen...if she got a T-Top out of the factory, the grabrail was omitted...

WANT MORE PICS!!!

Others here that know me also know that this comment was bound to show up. No such thing as to much HP.

If you ever want to get together and do some night time Snook fishing let me know. I am a master at catching Snook at Haulover on most nights.

Yeap, i do believe its a aftemarket t-top. A nice one i may add im very happy with the construction. i just got the boat last Nov. so i been working on it little by little. I had made plans to change the rub rails and a few things but the motor has set those plans on hold. I have to get the motor running right first. i put about 100 hours on it this summer. when i got her she had only been used around 140 hrs and by looking at the boat they were real. As i said before im very happy with the Haul and plan to keep he a long time.

bumpster:
