prop and prop seal
« on: October 04, 2010, 01:21:29 PM »
Have a 1984 222 xf wa and repowered it with a 2010 225 e tec.Love the motor but not getting the speed. It came with a 14.75 19 prop from evinrude.I am only getting 5200 rpm wot.I had braid wrap in the hub while anchored out fishing.GOT it out of the hub , finished fishing and docked the boat.Noticed a 2 ft. pice of braid, un wraped it and here is one of two questions I have.Without taking the boat out of the water how can I tell the seal is still ok?And number two is would a viper 17 get me the extra speed and rpms.Looking forward to some advice, thanks.

You are going to have to pull the lower fill plug on the foot after the engine sits for a while to see if any water comes out or the oil is milky colored.  If you can accomplish this without pulling the boat out of the water, by standing in the water, being in another small boat whatever... but that plug has to be removed.  On the prop, a same diameter prop with 2" less pitch should raise your RPM about 400-500 RPMs at WOT.  Speed will be what it will be at the rated RPM and associated boat load, once you reach the MFG rated RPM you are pretty much done.

Hey Flounder question for you I noticed that you put a 225 etec on your 1984 222. I as well have the same boat and need to motor it. What are your suggestions? Especially size?

Flatback, that was a "quote" from roofer in the above post, you should PM roofer to get his attention on your question in case he doesn't check this thread for a while??
