Do you know what the island is called?  I'll try calling the Charlotte County Parks & Rec dept, see what it costs for a camping permit. Can't be more than a few bucks.  My wife has to work that weekend, so I might bring a buddy along... unless someone is bringing those Hooters girls

I would try camping on my 225 Osprey, but I'm guessing the skeeters will eat me alive. Would rather pop up a tent if I can.

Doc said that it is called "Little Dog Island".  If all else fails tell them it is the island just south and west of the train trestle next to the boca grande bridge.

Hey thanks, I Googled that info and found their website, and they give this information:

Wilderness Island Camping
If you like adventure, Grande Tours now offers primitive camping on an island in the Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserve! Fish, snorkle and watch an amazing assortment of birds and wildlife from a great vantage point.

We will rent kayaks and furnish maps so you can paddle to your island adventure destination, or we can take you and your gear to the island by boat (for a fee). You will need to bring all your camping and cooking equipment. You will need to remove all garbage and litter... this is 'leaving no trace' camping.

$15.00 per site/per night; max.4 persons per site. Call for reservations.

Guessing they're referring to that island, but I'll call tomorrow and check, and will let everyone know.

I called Grande Tours today, and inquired about their island.  They stated there are 2 islands to the south of the Boca Grande Causeway, and that the larger of the 2 islands (sometimes called "Dog Island") has 4 camp sites for tent camping; all 4 are available next weekend.

Sounds like that's our island!    I will likely call and reserve one of the spots for $15.

I took a peek at the 10 day from here in Huntsville and it looks like it's going to be PERFECT
Now if I can just get out of here tonight and get home on time - big low swirling around a little south west of here.  Hopefully it'll stay south and not creep up into the ATL area.

Someone needs to recruit seabob4 to our event.  Would love to meet the guy, and he seems the sort to enjoy shooting the BS and drinking a few beers!

I checked out the marine forecast and it's not looking too good guys.  Real windy the whole weekend - right out of the north.
http://forecast.weather.gov/shmrn.php?mz=GMZ873
Wind will be howling and the temp is going to dip.  What do you think - want to postpone?  There is no reason to get beat up for this gathering - plenty of fair weather days ahead.

I agree the weather is gonna be cold and nasty, and the the later we go this year the water temps will get colder but we could always raft up,i'm still in anytime except for the holiday weekends.

Lets get an idea of what everyone thinks for another date and maybe have a poll, the more i think about it i would hate to wait till next May to have a Gathering, enjoyed the last ones to much. :salut:
