Weather is going to be great - cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon.  We will meet around noon at Southport Marina - http://southport-marina.com/location.html  - we can decide if we want to raft up for waterfront lunch  :pig:  or head out to fish from there.   :fish:  :fish:

High tide is around 9:00 am, and low around 3:15 pm, so be careful to watch the markers in the afternoon.  Fish seem to bite best on an outgoing tide - so timing should be pretty good!   :salut:

Sundown is around 6:30, so plan to be at Maison Barbie in time to watch the sunset over the water - yes, you can see that even though we are on the east coast...  Bring your catch to fry/grill and whatever you might be drinkin...  We will have some of Scott's famous oysters, chips/dip, and maybe a surprise or two...  To get to Maison Barbie, go across the bridge to Oak Island, go straight through the stoplight and stay on Caswell Beach Road as it bears left.  Just keep driving toward the Oak Island lighthouse.  As you get closer, you will see the pink house in front of you on the right - that's it - 407 Caswell Beach Road - the official name of the house is "The 19th Hole" - but that's not what we call it.  GPS maps may miss the address by a good margin, so just use your eyeballs and look for the pink house - the one with the Aquasport in the driveway would be a good guess.

We're back! It was a GREAT time! The weather was postcard-perfect, temp 68 to 74, light NW wind going around to light SE.  Couldn't have dialed it up any better. We were blessed.

Lewis and Bridgette picked up Jesse and his lovely friend Paige in Charleston Friday afternoon. By the time they got checked in, had dinner, geared up, it was getting late, so we all agreed we'd hook up the next day.

In the meantime, Captain John and his charming wife Betsy prepared a steak dinner to be remembered. John did it the old-fashioned way on charcoal, he had some neat tricks...lemme tell you, this man can cook. I like to cook too, but to me one of the hardest things to cook consistently is steak on the barbie. He nailed it!

JD Dupree (John) and his fishing buddy Big Mike leave Greenville NC  Sat. morning 6 am. We too get up at the crack of dawn, the king mac boats are directly in front of Maison Barbie catching bait. We see as they leave where they are heading. They are basically going to two or three different holes, close to the beach. So, we know where the pogys are, and based on their exiting compass heading, where they expect the bite to be.

Betsy and my bride Carolyn decide to stick around the maison, so John and I head to the ramp in "Gone Fission." What a nice boat!   She's in superlative condition, many nice custom touches, new fold-down T-Top, and a 200 Merc thats a firecracker! JD has just arrived at the marina with his 200 CCP with a 200 Merc....and....they're off!!

Lewis calls and says that after mimosas they will enjoy a gourmet brunch and catch up with us later.....

So we go catch bait, and head to Yaupon Reef, about 2.5 miles away. Notice not much going on there. Lotta boats, but no bent rods. We're fishing around 30 minutes, long line goes screaming...fish on! John grabs it.

It runs about 90 yards, then does a 180, and runs straight back at us, heading OFFSHORE. That means one thing around here...big fish! Big fish don't get big by being dumb, and this one is outta here. John is reeling like hell.....but she runs through two of our other lines, and gets off. Oh well that's fishing, its still early, and we're feeling pretty good.

JD and Big Mike are hanging tough beside us. I check our lines....the transom bait has been hit, we bring in a pogy head. Then we fish for a solid hour, nothing. Notice boats around us picking up and heading elsewhere. The "Fall Brawl" KMT is going on, so the radio is silent. What to do?

The cell phone rings, Lewis says they have decided to stay for expresso and eclairs, will catch up with us later....

So we all fish a while longer....Capt. John had good luck earlier in the week at the "Hot Hole" so we head that way. We fish toward there and...voila....here comes the missing piece of Team Aquasport! Its "Jesse's Girl" !

We're happy they're with us!  We decide to go to the beach for fresh bait, Lew gets onboard with John, I take the net and get onboard with Jesse, we head to the beach. That 19-6 of his has a spankin' new 140 hp Suzi, and brothers, she's a smoker. Ran effortlessly in the upper 40's, smooth through the power range....that may be the perfect motor for the 19-6.

Catch bait, head back to the mothership. As we're transferring bait, the rod goes off....whatever it is, its pretty big. Fight it for 25 to 30 minutes, its dogging hard, but no head-shaking. Itsa shark, a nice gray, 5 feet and 50 lb. class.

Unfortunately, thats all we caught all day. The KM bite was OFF. Found out later the tourney boys were cryin'. But we had a heckuva time, like we all knew each other....and reckon we do.....

For dinner we had cool ones, spanish mac salad, homespun cornbread, fried fish, ribeyes, and steamed oysters. Heavy on the protein....

Pics to follow courtesy of "Team Aquasport".

Full disclosure:    Possible exaggeration....not exactly sure what was on the brunch menu....

What an awesome weekend, and terrific experience!  Captain John thank you for your excellent planning, and gracious hospitality. Lew, thank you for going the extra mile for a friend. Jesse and Paige, thanks for taking back the Halloween costumes and choosing the unknown. JD and Mike...thanks for coming, you're great guys, we're gonna get 'em!

                                            GO CLASSIC AQUASPORT!!!

The Octoberfest was great fun - it was nice to meet some new folks and see the boats in the water!

Directions to the house were pretty simple - look for the pink house with 2 Aquasports in the driveway - Miss Marco and Gone Fission ready to go:

Southport Marina is a nice place:

Dupree and Mike went out on Ellyn-Ruth with Scott and I on Gone Fission - the others followed, uh, later:

Finally Jesse's Girl arrived:

And off we go to fish -

Not much luck fishing, so the fleet heads in:

By the Southport Waterfront:

And a group photo at the ramp:
