Octoberfest Aquasport Reunion
« Reply #15 on: October 10, 2010, 03:45:09 PM »
OK - here's the plan - always subject to change, but here's the plan:

12:00-200 p.m. Saturday - Meet at Southport Marina with the boats in the water.  Nice facilities there, only $5 to launch and park, with a restaurant across the street.  Bring spouses, kids, and pets if you want!  Info at:  http://southport-marina.com   - nice facility - on-site bait shop only sells frozen stuff, though...
606 W. West Street - Southport, NC 28461
Phone: 910-457-9900 email: http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/hote ... cn=SPTNCHX

If you are Baptist, you can also stay at the Baptist Center at Fort Caswell - just down the street from Maison Barbie: http://www.fortcaswell.com  - histroic/local facility, and note hey have a marina there as well fo those staying there.

So make your plans to be there!!!

John, a sincere THANK YOU for an excellent job in planning this event!

I am looking forward to a great time. ANY kind of fish you want to fish for, they are all there. Here is a link to an excellent source for reliable, updated Southport/Oak Island fishing:

http://www.oifc.com/fishing_report.cfm

The cool thing about fishing there....you don't have to go in the ocean to catch fish, unless you want to. There is great flounder/red drum/speckled trout/spot/croaker fishing ten minutes from where we put in. Great king/spanish/cobia fishing 15 minutes from the dock.

And man, is that a beautiful place to cruise/fish in the fall....guess you can tell I'm excited!

Its two weekends from now....Saturday, October 23rd. The big single Stump Sound oysters are my treat for you guys showing up....so COME ON!!

All we need is a head count to know how many bushels of big, juicy, tasty hot oysters to steam in their own succulent juices....

Wow!!

So everything looked good for me to attend the "reunion", until I was unpleasantly reminded by the girlfriend that I had already made plans with her and the fam that weekend    ... So sorry guys, I was really looking forward to it.  Hopefully I'll be able to attend the next one.  Take lots of pictures please

Here's where we are headed - We will meet at Southport Marina (upper right):

And here is the beach house location for Saturday night's get-together:

Here's what the house looks like - see why we call it "Maison Barbie"

Gonna be great - see you there!

Really looking forward to meeting everyone. I found a motel on the beach on Oak island. 70 bucks a night and on the beach near Yaupon. So it looks like we are not too far from"Maison Barbie". Looks like the kings are definitely around.

Know she had previous plans....speaking of making plans, my bride thought I was crazy for talking with strangers, until she met John and Lewis this summer. Its a comfort thing for our girls to guard the nest, understandable, and appreciated.

Show her the pics of "Maison Barbie." And tell her the pics were taken oceanfront looking inland, and the ocean was lapping fifty feet behind the photographer's feet. Beautiful home, awesome invitation.

Wish you could be here...come if at all possible.

JD and Lew,

Absolutely, ain't no rush to get anywhere quick. I'm fourth gen here in the hood, and I recommend that you stay here, for a reason.

I've KM fished all over. There is NO bite like a fall Southport bite when the stars align. JD, you've heard about it, it ain't BS. It's ON. And if it's on, as soon as you throw a live pogy in the water you're hooked up.

I can remember one fall KM fishing in Southport that we had to take ALL of the rods out of the water, just to gulp down a sandwich. That's the truth.

My bride can't venture outside, she gets sick. But that's cool. I'll put you guys on my holes. I'll stay inside, and catch some spots. Man, those spots fry up!!

Forward forecast is COOL weather.....Water temp dropping fast, bite is on even faster!

Need some oyster eaters....

Yaupon Beach is just down the street from Caswell Beach, so you are close to Maison Barbie - the pink house is very close to the Oak Island lighthouse, so you can't miss it.  And there is an artifical reef (AR 425) just off Yaupon Beach that is a GREAT flounder spot - you can see the marker buoy from the beach - you can check out nearby reefs and program your GPS at:   http://www.ncfisheries.net/reefs/sofear.htm

Even the guys in Kayaks are catching kings:  http://www.northcarolinasportsman.com/l ... dc6123019f

See you there!

I'll see what I can do.  The Maison Barbie does look very enticing, and the weather has been great.  Took the boat out Baiting and Shrimping last weekend (I'm really not sure why people get into that... lots of work for what seems like little reward ... just my opinion), and it was perfect out.

It's a Halloween thing we're attending that weekend and we already have costumes.  8-Ball says Outlook not Good.
