Is my fuel hose ethanol resistant?

First off, I'm a new user and this is my first post. I have enjoyed reading many topics and seeing many of your pictures and projects. I just picked up a 1985 200 Express Fisherman walkaround. It is a bit of a project boat, but I have come to the realization that any do it yourselfer worth his salt has to tackle a boat at some point! So anyhow, the tank had water sitting on it and developed some pitting and 3 pinhole leaks. A welder I know told me it wasn't worth fixing. Sure, let him pay the $700 bucks for a new tank. I inspected the inside of the tank and it's perfect as far as I could see. So I bought some Permatex gas tank repair epoxy and fixed it myself. On top of that I applied 5 coats of truck bed liner (plastikote bed armor w/ kevlar). The tank is now a beast! That leads me to phase 2: fuel system! The filler hose checks out, but the line that goes to the motor I haven't been able to run down online. I've got an e-mail in to trident, but they may not get back to me till Monday. OK, so I'm impatient, I'm not getting any younger! So here is the script on the hose "TRIDENT FUEL HOSE SAE J1527 12/85 USCG Type A1 3/8"ID 080796" The hose is black with a red stripe and the red lettering breaks up the stripe now and then. If any of you Ol' Salts can gimme some feedback or can anticipate any issues I may have PLEASE gimme a heads up! Experience always trumps the textbook.

Replace the hose (hell, it's only 25 years old ) with new using the same spec on the old and one that also shows it's alcohol resistant. Most new, high quality fuel hose is these days and will be labeled as such along with the other specs.

Thanks for replying guys! The hose is definetly not 25 years old. It looks relatively new, I just wanted to be sure it was ok for the E10 we pump here in Florida before I sealed the tomb. It's not so much a cost thing, I just hate trashing stuff for the sake of trashing it. Plus we all know how projects can nickel and dime you to death! I've restored a few cars before, and believe me I know! Still the feed line is considerably newer than the vent line, I'm thinking of using it for the vent and buying "cheap insurance for the feed side. If I can ever get the old vent line out of the foam! Again thanks for the links, and the welcome guys. :)

PS: Hey you guys know of anywhere else on the net I may be able to get some interior pics or general photos of my model. It's missing a few pieces of trim around the helm. I'm sort of an originalist and would like to stick with that ol' school look.

Your feed is 3/8" line, your vent is 5/8"...won't work...

I may be all wet here but the hose manufacture date you listed (with the other specs) is 12/85.

I guess that's close enough to 1/86 to be listed as 24 y.o.

The hoses I replaced on my 84 CCP in 1996 look brand new (on the outside).

Hi308 Welcome aboard!  Nice 200 XF!  I have a 81 model.  I love it.  Where in FL are you?  Your welder is correct you can't weld up pitting...  it just blows out.  I built a new tank for mine.  Look at my posts and you can find the thread that has lots of pics.  Make sure you get the hose with a red stripe that is rated for below deck use.  What are you missing from the inside?  I have plenty of pics of mine.  If your close to Clearwater you can come look at my XF if you like.

Hey Wingtime! I was checking out your 200xf last night as a matter of fact, It seems you finally have some company in the 200XF class! I'm in Homestead crammed right in between Miami and the Keys. I saw your tank project too. You got a great hook-up having a friend weld it for you. What I'm missing is the trim just below the glass on the port and stbd sides by the seats. I also have some sort of spicerack that I have no clue where to mount. It looks like it came with the boat though.

In your signature you are trying to bold your name - the last "b" should look like this /b inside the brackets.

Where was the pitting and pinholes on your tank?  The bottom?  I'm not sure I would want to trust a repair out of a tube or can.
Your tank looks nice now, just wondering if it is really going to last - I'd be worrying anyway.

Yeah RickK, The tank had no pitting on damage on the bottom at all, only on the top where the straps seemed to be retaining water. The previous owner, who removed the tank, said it had some sort of padding beneath the straps. I guess it was retaining water that got through the circular access openings.  But I figured even if that were to happen now it wouldn't be a problem. I reckon that the even if I get another year out of the tank, it would be worth the effort. If I ever figure it out I'll start a project photo gallery. I've learned a lot from others and found it very entertaining.
