First Time Rebuild

First timer starting a rebuild on a '73 22-2, any tips, tricks that  would be helpful?  First question; is it better to start rebuild on trailer (it's a roller trailer) or to brace on the ground?  Looking forward to starting and want to do it right.

I would take it off the trailer. Roller trailers are famous for not supporting hulls very well.
You can build a cradle that keeps the hull from deforming as you remove structures in the hull.
This makes it much easier when you put it back together and nothing has moved.

Thanks for the information, keep any comments/ideas coming.  Here are some pictures, the basic hull is in good shape the deck has some very "soft" spots in it, can't wait to get it open and see just how much rot in under there.

You'll need to use a photo hosting site like photobucket (free) to store your pics so start there and open an acct, upload your pics, size them to 640x480, save the resized ones as the originals and then follow the instructions here to post them in your topics here.

You're almost there - make sure the pics are sized to 640W x 480 high.

Then if you hover your mouse over the pics you'll see a dropdown appear.  One of the rows in the dropdown is the IMG code you need to copy and paste in your topic.  This will bring properly sized images into your topic saving the viewer from going to your hosting site.  Here is an example of using the IMG code in a post - only difference is that I used {} instead of []:

Been making some headway. I need to start thinking about a console.  

I'm thinking of something about 28" wide by about 48" tall. If anyone found something or a company they really like, I'd like to hear about it. I also would like to find a gas tank.  If I can find both in Florida then I can pick up both at the same time.

Any suggestions appreciated.  :P

I will be there this coming Saturday     if you have some specific measurements for the tank, I can look and see what they have, same with the console.  Prices are Ok on some stuff, great on other stuff.  Biggest problem is, they don't know what they have, because they have so much.  That is why if you can just go there, or have "eyes on" from someone that has good details of what you are looking for it helps.  Let me know.

It would be great if you could look at what they have for consoles. I'm looking for one that is about 28" wide by 48" tall with a raised back that would allow me to look straight at the gauges and not flat faceing up.

Don't know where your located, but they have a console close to what your looking for in Sarasota at Marine Surplus.

Seems like it was 27" -28" wide, not sure if it's 48" tall.

Thanks guys, great help. Last thing I'm looking for is a Mercury OptiMax 150-175, jack plate and "Port-a-bracket". If you have any Good leads or a place to start that would also be great info.  :bounce:

To go along with the above question; what size shaft should I have with a "Port-a-bracket??  20 or 25 inch?

Am I asking the right questions or is there something I should be asking that I'm not.
