How bad di I mess up? (Premix Oil)
« on: September 05, 2010, 01:24:34 PM »
Came home yesterday from 3 day trip to Catalina island. Had 29 gallons of gas left stopped and put in 36 gallons (65 total in tank). I mix my oil in tank. So we get home start to clean the boat and run motor. I Let the  motor run for about 3 minutes before I realized I forgot to put the oil in the tank.

How bad did I screw up?.................................. Going to drain the fuel separator and the lines, was thinking about draining the carb bowels too.

Any advise?

Should be no problem, oil injected outboards run at 75-1 to 150-1 at idle by design so in reality you should be fine, you had enough pre-mix in tank to give her enough oil to keep her alive. It is amazing coming from the 24-1 days how little oil an outboard actually needs at idle. Dont sweat it!! Have a cold one, happy Memorial Day; at least you remembered!!!

If you ran it at idle I would bet that no damage was done at all. Three minutes at idle probably didnt even use a half gallon of fuel. I had an old 115 rude back in the mid 80's and every time i was done for the day I would run the fuel out and once the line was disconnected from the engine it would run almost 2 minutes before it ran out of fuel

I say the wrong name all the time.  I have an excuse though, I'm old.  ;)

Ain't none of us old, and ain't none of us dumb. We remain a team. Fitz, you and I spoke by phone early this morning regarding a question I had on the twins.

Thanks for your sought input.....much appreciated.

Best on your trip. Come home safe and sound. And most importantly, keep in touch, en Chine'.

JJ, you've  always offered  good thinking.....THANKS on this end.
