Scalloping in FL
« on: August 25, 2010, 04:52:11 PM »
Has anyone on here done any Scalloping?  I'm looking to go somewhere in the Hernando county area.  Any suggestions on what ramp to launch from..  spots or tricks to finding them?  How many did you catch?  ETC ETC

Thanks!

Try the mouth of the Homosassa river, as well as Chasowitska...

If you are taking your boat.  You might want to launch out of Bayport or Homosassa.  I wouldn't try Chasahowitzka unless you like buying props and lowerunits.  From Bayport head north a few miles.  Generally they can be found in 5-8 ft of water.  I have heard that you can tow someone behind the boat at an idles with a mask on and let them watch for scallops.  Last time I was out was the opening of season and they were pretty small.  They should be bigger by now.  Bring a speargun in case you see a cobia or flounder.  Let us know how you do and where to meet ya for the cook out!  I haven't been able to go much this year cause of the the youngin.  But we used to go every two weeks during the season.
