Fuel Tank Sizes
« on: August 13, 2010, 06:14:30 AM »
Mod Edit: 22 June 2011: Since some Members have included tank manufacturers as well as size, as new ones come on line, I post them in this thread. <!-- s:mrgreen: --><!-- s:mrgreen: -->

Here is a topic to enter the fuel tank sizes for Aquasports.  Please read down the list to make sure that the size you enter isn't already there.  I don't expect that this topic will get that big - there were only so many models.

1971 170 - above sole - 27 gal aluminum
1992 230 Explorer - below sole - 140 gal aluminum

BTW guys, if anyone happens to pull their tanks, or at least have the hatch off to expose the tank, get the dimensions to go along with the tankage.  That's the REAL key to getting the fab info to the builders...

My '78 222 CCP had an optional 32 gallon in front of the console with matching fill on the port side.

I'm having to design my own fuel tank for a 1986 170 Osprey. The major problem is USCG rules state that the filler point on the tank must be above the top of the tank in case of a filler line breaking or comming unattached. So by my calculations for a 170 the most fule cap. you can get is 28 gal and that is streaching it. Aluminum Tank Design web site www.amarket.com quated me $379.00 for a custom built aluminum tank . Is that the best I can do or does anyone have a better place to go?

Kirk where are you located?   RDS gave me a good price.  http://www.rdsaluminum.com/index.html      The usual rule of thumb used to be $10- $12 per gallon not including shipping.

If you are still in need of a source for aluminum fuel tank fabricators, I would recommend "Florida Marine Tanks".
They manufactured tanks for Aquasport for years and still have the original drawings.
I recently ordered a new tank from them for my '82 170 Osprey.  Price was $350 plus freight which came to $49 UPS from North Carolina to Missouri.
Tanks come with Pickup,Fill,Vent, and electric sending unit.
They moved from Florida to North Carolina years ago but still have their Florida phone number.

I realize there are many places to get a new matching aluminum belly tank, but here's the place I used:
http://www.millersmachineandwelding.com/

Dodie Miller exactly matched my original tank.  You can ship your old one to him, and "presto", you'll get a beautiful new one back.

Of course, you can also send him dimensions for whatever you want.
