Fresh water tank
« on: August 10, 2010, 10:35:16 PM »
Seabob..
My Osprey has a 8 gal fresh water tank in the hatian hatch in front of the console,2 questions,#1 with all that room in there, why only an 8 gal?a 20 gal would easily fit in there. #2,is there any way to get the 8 gal out and a larger one in...with out cutting up the deck?It is so nice having that fresh water shower out there in this summer heat! Its one of our favorite features.
just curious,

Pete-

Gives me an idea to do the same on my 225 Osprey!
How is the tank plumbed in?  Where's your pump / water hose?  I wonder how hard it would be for me to rig something like that...

Boats.  Always another damn project!

Me three, on the 245, I have been thinking about that, maybe a bladder instead of a hard shell tank, with a QD to disconnect and remove if needed?? Just thinking...

sorry guys to start trouble, the tank and pump is under the floor between the console and the forward deck, there is a switch on the dash, one of the aux switches and the sprayer comes out of the transom into the rear door opening,I guess this was an option of the tournament master editions.

hatch in front of console seat

pump

switch

sprayer,on right side of doorway

OK guys, Pete, you first.  By removing the hatch frame, you should be able to get the 8 gallon tank out.  The problem you're facing is how would you get a bigger tank in?  The solution would be a larger hatch, open up the existing hole to accomodate it.  Tanks come in a variety of shapes, find the biggest one that would fit inside a larger hatch opening.

FP and Glock, you guys could do the same.  If you stick your head in the hatch and look aft you should see some gap between the deck and the aft b/head that would allow you to feed a hot and ground from the helm into the compartment.  The water line ran through a notch in the port side stringer all the way outboard and aft back to the transom  Actually fairly easy to run, just need a little patience.  Feed the water line out to the hullside, the hullside will help it curve aft.

And yes, the freshwater shower was part of the TM package...BTW, Pete, is that your original pump?

:geek:  Well, it probably wouldn't be a very expensive project to undertake... Maybe $100 ~$200 I'm guessing?

Thanks for the pics Pete!  Now I have everything I need... except a few hours of time!

Here's an idea  :!: Put one of those 5-10 gallon sunshower black bags on top of the t-top and plumb the hose down to a fitting on the pump.  That way you will have a nice, warm fresh water shower when you need it.  We used to use those sunshower bags in the back areas in Africa - a few hours in the sun and you've got a nice warm shower.  So much better than cold water at times and it give you an extra 5 gallons...

Even better.  Hell, why even bother to do the plumbing?  That Sunshower bag comes with a built-in shower head!  :drunken:  Let gravity do the work, and you wouldn't need a pump.

OK fellas, I've decided to finally do this project.  :D  Will be on the East Coast next week, and will be making a detour to Marine Connection Liquidators in Ft. Pierce to pick up the supplies.  Please tell me if I've forgotten anything-- I hope to only make one trip!

8/10 gal tank
Flojet pump
wire from helm to pump
Thru-hull fitting
hose from T/H to tank
hose from tank to pump
hose from pump to nozzle
Nozzle & housing(going to install it nearby... starboard side, next to my seat)
SS Screws - size suggestions?
5200
*What have I forgotten?*

If anyone needs me to look for something at MCL, shoot me a PM!

Can you cut the tank apart so you can get it out?  If you can, then replace it with a larger bladder tank and use the old pump and plumbing.

Ok, the 3-hour visit to MCL is complete!  (no really, I was there from about 8:30 till 11:30).  :|  I looked at some other stuff of course, but that place would sure benefit from some better merchandising and organization... I would've spent more!

They had no 8 gal tanks, so I bought an 11 gal and I'm praying it fits thru the hatch.  Total cost wasn't horrible, paid $280 for:

11 gal tank
Jabsco pump- 40psi 3.5 gpm, 9.0 amp.  Think I got a good deal here for $99, as it retails at Worst Marine for $150
Fill port
hose from port to tank + vent hose
hose from tank to pump
hose from pump to nozzle
Fittings and elbows
Nozzle & housing
Hose clamps
SS Screws
Nylon retaining strap
Labels for my switches

Will hopefully tackle this on Saturday!  (Along with installing my new sweet new gauge panel-- MUCHOS GRACIAS, flounderpounder!   :D )
