246 CCP Deck
« on: August 08, 2010, 09:15:27 AM »
I noticed when walking on the deck of a 1980 246CCP I just purchased that the deck appears to wave waves in it, almost like it's warped, no real soft spots. I was wonding if thats so water (such as rain water) drains to the sides or if it's an indication of water having ingressed into the underlayment.

Any comments would be appreciated. It appears to be a great boat other then that. Also there is a fiberglass piece that mounts directly behind the engin well and attached to each side of the transom, does anyone know where I could locate such a piece.

Thank you,
Garbowman

My 1981 200 XF has a slight "wave" in the aft port area of the deck.  It's rock solid and I think I'm the only one who knows it's there.  I have no idea if it was there since new or what but since it is solid and has no cracks...  I don't worry about it.

Are you talking about the spashwell or the spashwell door?  Got some pics?  That would help a lot.

Regarding the deck, where are your "waves" located?  The area under the center of the CCP deck forward of the gas tank hatch is open, and can feel a little "springy" even if the core is solid.  The area to the sides of the deck from bow to stern (outboard of the stringers) is foamed.  The gas tank hatch has a tendancy to delaminate the wood core and is likely to rot, but this is a pretty easy fix.

Hi,

Yes, thank you for prodiding me with the correct term, it is the splash well.

The areas that appear to feel warped are on the port side just in front of the console and on the starboard side back just in fornt of the transom.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do the "warped" areas feel soft or spongy?  It they are hard and solid, no worry.  If they are soft, you may have some delamination.
