Woody thanks, and best wishes on your move. You have found a good friend in Lewis....he cares about others. Same thing I preach to my kids (grown kids) everyday.

He informed me this afternoon of your move, and was happy you were moving so close to him. He also mentioned that you were a master woodworker. Good deal!

Thanks for your help, and hope you guys get to your new home in Georgia safe and sound.

All righty guys, just spoke with the owner of Barbour Plastics and mentioned we had four interested parties....around 200 feet or so. He said he needs more, how much more he couldn't say as he wasn't in the office. So, will call him next week.

Is there ANY OTHER interest out there? Without more, looks like we're sunk.

Lewis made a good observation today. The green rubrail up until the year '74 was as he described "army man green."

My '75 22-2 and Skoots 19-6 and Fitz's 22-2 all are the same, more of an emerald green.  All '75 models. And since there are no production archives, we're gonna go it alone here, on observation and a bit of supposition.

So, think we'll try and order up the deep emerald green. This will be the same color as Skoots, per his photos.

We have orders for approx. 200 feet. Whatever is required per the company, on our end of the production run, some of us may end up purchasing, as an investment. Full disclosure.

mine's a 73 and the green is pretty bright.  l like a dark hunter green myself but this color is lighter. Seems to be a close match to the aquasport logo. This isn't a close-up photo of the rubrail, but you can see the color in sunlight.

Ace, thanks for your timely post. We've been discussing among ourselves what we have found in terms of color, year, and color per year.

Frankly, not sure we're there yet.

Two schools of thought: one thinks our rubrail green was the same from intro in the late 60's 'till at least 75/76, then could have changed. And following this thought, the color should be exactly the same....but taking into account UV exposure through the years, and factoring in lattitude/humidity/mold/mildew, etc. could be the same production, but appear slightly/significantly different.

The other school maintains that there were subtle color changes per year, all lengths. It was the late 60's, early 70's, mid 70's, early 80's. Not only boats, but like cars then, change sold product.

Have attempted to research Aquasport production archives from the 60's and 70's, Hialeah, Florida.

It's a disappointment to report that they are non-existent, at least on the net.

Good news is that we'll decide which color rubrail to produce as our seventies representative. Please PM to me your Visa number....make sure and have a 10K min.

Just kiddin'....

My rubrail, which I'm sure is original, doesn't look that bad. Is there some kind of Armorall or automotive plastics restorer that would clean it up? I'm firmly against spending money on cosmetics right now, because I just got it and already have a list of basic operational things to do.

Which is the prudent thing to do...

We too have tried to shave the monthly budget here at the household...but there still remains an unnecessary and exorbitant amount spent on cosmetics.

Plan on addressing this soon.

Folks, I too would be game, for a length of rub rail. My 22-2 also has a dark green "original" rub rail. Keep us posted on the options....

Bayou Runner,

Welcome to our site, thanks for joining. Think of us as a family; every once in a while, some cryin'....but for the most part, we're a team, and no "I" in team. Good stuff.

The green rubrail at present, per many PM's, we're trying to decide on the preferred color. We have concluded that the late sixties to mid to late seventies rubrail production run was as it occurred; that is, whatever variant of green color was produced per that production run was installed. No rhyme, no reason. The board prefers Skoot's color. I have attempted to bribe Lewis to bribe Skoot (at a profit to Lewis of course)  :D   to obtain a  core sample of Skoot's rubrail, since his is the chosen one.

Good fun, but the fact is that Skoot holds the color most aspire to. And Skoot, as you're astute at color repro....could you palette-match via software your true color as posted a few months back?

Much appreciated, will go forward. Thanks.

Ace, good post, in terms of Aquasport production history. Yours is 1973, medium green/ green-yellow green.. Most in that era were emerald green/dark emerald green/darker green still. We're not in agreement here yet.

Uncertain which sub (subs?)  produced our rubrails in the late sixties through the late seventies, but for sure, there was change, per discussion. They produced several variant color runs.

Just guessing, but rather than fight it, Hialeah  installed it. America needed a good fishing boat, without delay.

Lewis is bringing two samples in a couple of weeks. I'll have mine as well. That should give us an accurate cross-section. Then if Skoot can formulate his color, will forward to Barbour. Hopefully we can finalize this.....If they'll make the run.

Lewis, thanks for bumping the topic. I believe we'll have strong interest this spring.

Lew will forward his samples this week. I will compare his to mine. We all agree that Skoot's emerald green is what's needed for the production run.

I have my original '73 rubrail in hand. Looking forward to seeing Lew's samples.

Fitz mentioned tonight that ALL of the production records were destroyed upon Genmar's takeover, and lamented that. Certainly makes it harder for aficionados to replicate.

Stay tuned.

Ace, thanks.

Your '73 color looks very close to Skoot's. Skoot....your thoughts?

Edit: Just went by and picked up a sample of my '73 rubrail from the rebuilders. It is exactly like Ace's, and now comparing it to Skoot's posted pics...is NOTHING like Skoots.

Have just reviewed as many pics as could find, think maybe they were lighter/different in tone 'till about 74. Miss Marco was a 75, it was dark, but not as "green" as Skoot's 75.

We're gonna figure this out.  Gonna give Skoot a call, since we all seem to be in agreement that his is the color we want.
