Green rubrail, revisited

Based on the old post, just spoke with Barbour Plastics in Mass. They said they quit making the green rubrail several years back. They now make a teal color for Sundance boats.....but took a look, its more of a blue.

Has anyone found a source for the 70's green rubrail? THANKS for your help.

Well, struck out....they had a little of it left...in 20 foot sections. And doubted that they would get any more in. We'll keep pluggin'!

We are going to have to find a manfacturer who is willing to mix the colors and make a production run of 70`s AS green rub rail. Not sure what the minimum order amount would be. If we could get a number of us to pledge to buy the rail maybe we can have it made. All we need to do is have Scott buy a couple of miles of rub rail and we can buy it from him in 50 ft lenghts. I`m in; 5230 feet to go!

Fitz, good thinking. I just was on the phone BS-ing with the owner of Barbour Plastics, original maker of our rails. He is a world of knowledge. And very amiable. He's friends/supplier to all of the Carolina/Fla  builders. The ones from 40 years ago to present. He even sold to Beaver Boats in Belhaven, NC....that place blew up about 20 years back.

He says they haven't made dark green in almost ten years. Last production he remembers went to Mako, and one small builder, now GOB.

Per your thinking, I'll bet if we all got together, we could maybe get him to produce a final run. We'd buy the whole run. Ya'll think it over, I'd be happy to administrate/coordinate if you guys want to pursue it.

Pretty sure we'd all enjoy our girls in a pretty new dress!

Somewhere back in a old post I remember that the minimum they would make was 600 ft(one roll). I don't know if it was Barbour or not.

Count me in too as i'd like to replace my old whacked-n-cracked rail.  I'm glad i saw the post.  What do ya expect the gross cost for 600ft (or any other quantity) would be?

My XF didn't have a green rub rail but I may consider replacing mine with green (not avocado green though :)  )

The green sample in the right-hand column (scroll down 'till you see the samples on the plywood board) is the Barbour Plastic remnant. Our potential production would be the same, with a white insert.

that sample looks "True green" where  the original is a dark, hunter green.

My opinion: Black would be closer to the original color. Just a thought

Well Skoot, since you and poliski`s 75 170 in Chicago have the only two original rub rails in pristine condition, why dont you let us have a foot long chunk of yours for the color match and we`ll put a new black rub rail on your 19-6 free of charge!!!!

You wish, but tell you what. I will grab the Pantone book from work and get an exact color match then report back. Im not sure how the boating industry works, but Pantone color match is spot on in the Print world.

Having been in the automotive paint business for 20 years Pantones are a pain in the a$$. The color chips are printed on white paper and under a microscope the "color" you are matching is really an illusion because under magnification the ink lays on top of the paper and you are looking at (as an example) white through the blue or green or whatever color lies on top. Painted color chips are a lot easier to match and if you can find a BASF paint dealer they have a color swath chip system that is really easy to use.
