70's louvered port-side vent
« on: July 15, 2010, 09:37:53 PM »
Guys, Fitz sent to me today a custom-made, exact duplication of the louvered port-side vent common to all 70's Aquasports.
It was not the plastic product tho...it was handmade in teak.

The quality is unsurpassed. Excellent joiner-work, no glue, two countersunk 516 grade stainless screws per fin. And the fit and finish....look for it on Antique Road Show fifty years from now.

Don't know how he came up with it, but its awesome.

More than pleased. And the teak adds that retro Palm Beach look. Thanks Fitz!

Did not have a chance to post a pic....Fitz hopefully can supply.

This is the first purchase for my new boat, "Miss Marco."

Just be careful when you dock! I would hate to bust something that pretty!

Of course as Capt Bob would say!

Yup, I always launch and dock on the Starboard side, That plate is exactly level with every floating dock in my area.

Thanks Seebob,
Maggie probably came from Hammock Dunes if she was ITT connected (LOL). She will know what I`m talking about. She would not believe that place now. Many 0`s to live there now!

OK Guys,
Heres the deal on the teak side vents if anyone is interested. I just found a great piece of teak; enough to make (4) four complete assemblies plus a spare louver kit if you bust one on the dock. $85 ea. you pay the freight from Daytona  Beach, Fl. Check out the pics in this thread if interested. These are one of a kind reproductions that really look great. Scott will tell you what they look like. I need some comittments to purchase the teak. Let me know.

The previous discussion speaks for itself. A quality product, at a great price. And try and find it elsewhere. The maker has six hours in it minimum, start to finish....do you feel its worth 15 bucks an hour, including teak and hardware?

Go figure. I did.

Further discussion regarding the vent banging the dock. Granted, the vents protrude from the frame (per original design).
That of course holds true for the original model fiberglass vent (of hand-laid fiberglass cloth).

You can buy a decent size fender for the stern port-side: or sand down the louvers on either product: or do away with them all together.

I like the classic approach, with a twenty dollar fender ready to go. I like a pretty blonde, too. Guess I like classic.
