Yep, SB, I'm with you. I'm sending her a nice card and some beautiful earrings, in recognition of her professionalism..... :D

Then will give her a call back this fall, when they all get back down there.

She seems very nice to work with...

Cotuit, MA on Cape Cod, huh?  Funny how far and wide this forum reaches.  This guy is pretty much my neighbor in the summer.  Just for the record, I would never take a dump in front of his house at night.  Or send some Craigslist hookers over to his house.  Or advertise Cape Cod's biggest yard sale in local papers for 7AM Sunday morning, early birds welcome, or ______________________.......  Some people like to think "karma" just happens.  I like to create my own.

Brothers, you all said from the beginning  "What goes around , comes around." We all want to believe it, but....you never know. Witnessing these last posts,  its time to believe. I do.

Curious from Mass. is this man's summer neighbor. Curious, thank you, and as you suggested, invite the whole neighborhood over for his yard sale, and associated Craigslist after-party.

If you see his girly-man son, kick his ass for me. I'll repay you in kind.

Thanks, Curious.

JJ,

IMHO, you're the heartbeat of this board. Keep it coming.

Best to all, and thank you.

Gran,

Sweet ride!  Had a friend at work that had that same year and color. He has sinced moved out to Arizona and took the car with him.

I'm curious, how did you make your payment check or money order?  Did you send it by mail?  I'm also confussed on the issue of not being able to go after him criminally.  There was no intent to defraud?

Shortpants,

Wish I DID own one of those cars. I bought a beat to heck 22-2 1975 Aquasport, mislead as to condition. But hopefully, will make a nice boat. She's pretty now, from a hundred feet away.

Thanks.

Well guys, as mentioned, Miss Marco was scheduled to go to Sea Mark Boats here in ILM  Nov. 1 for the rip-out and rebuild. Had a chance yesterday morning to go ahead and take her over, so did.

The family has been in the boat biz for 3 generations, plus they have a good name. They took a look at her.....she can't be rebuilt.

Rick (think it was you, but maybe others too) hit the nail on the head with what happened to her. When she dropped from the lift, the forward keel slammed down hard on concrete, racking the forward portion straight upward, basically bending the hull up and back against itself. That is the reason for the two repairs across the forward bow cap, and all of the heavy stress cracks in those areas. And the heavy bow damage. So basically she has a circular crack all the way around the hull in that area.

Over the course of the summer, red bondo has started to show through the white spray paint, and the cracks have become more pronounced. They recommended that I pull the new tank, pull the engines, and take her to the landfill.

He said that if I really liked the boat, I could find another one somewhere in any condition (he guaranteed that any condition would be better than what we have now) and rebuild that one.

Or, could sell the Mercs, go forward, and get another boat.

So, I'm seeking your advice; If you were me, what would you do?

I called the Marco PD yesterday. I am pressing charges of criminal fraud on the old man, and his son as accessory.

Thanks very much for your help and input.

Scott

I hate that my friend.  I'm glad you are pressing charges.  If nothing else it will cost them some attorney fees and bail bond.  Maybe it will scare the old man into the hospital or something.  I know, my wife tells me all the time I'm a cold-hearted mofo but I have no use for thieves.

I have no clue about your financial status but if it were me I would sell the motors to get some working capital and start the search.  If you find something within 200 miles of me I will be happy to do an inspection for you.  Heck, we might even be able to set up a relay network to get the thing to NC.

Good luck!

Hey Scott,

Is it worth a second opinion? I`ve seen some sows ears turned into some silk purses. You ran the boat; you would know if it had a busted stringer by now. What was the rough quote to restore her under normal circumstances?

Scott,
Lewis and I talked yesterday afternoon, discussing possible fixes.  One possibility is to expose the cracked area on the inside of the hull, grind all around the crack, and lay down several layers of 3610 to provide a substantial foundation.  Then, on the outside, grind the cracked area down to the new glass.  Build that area back up with 3610, then fair to match the hull contours...

Just a suggestion...

Just my opinion, but in this situation, I'd have to ask myself how much Peace of Mind is worth.  I know you hate to do it, but if it were my decision, I'd let the boat go.  You can probably find another hull in better condition for as much or maybe even less than it will cost to repair the one you've got.  Furthermore, and I know some may deem this as blasphemy, you DON'T have to own an Aquasport...

For the type of fishing you're doing, there's arguably better boats out there.

Scott,
Rather than tell what I would do, let's look at it (yes, I realize that's what you been doing since you got it) once more based on your posts to the Forum. Please remember that I'm basing my input on my understanding of your various posts.

1. You want an Aqua (duh) and you seem to gravitate to the earlier (I call them Generation 1) style.

2. You don't mine wrenching on the boat, cleaning and polishing and replacing some of the "aged" sections. You aren't opposed to fiberglass repair along the lines of hatch/tank cover or console. That stated, I don't think you are/were looking for a project boat.
If I'm wrong, then the answer you seek is simple. Strip what you can use off the current hull and either sell or use on another hull. There are plenty to be found, or seek to repair the existing one. If not, then let's move to the next phase.

3. Money. Only you can fill in this blank. You may have very well calculated this already but if not, any decision you make is dead in the water. Again, strictly my opinion based on your posts, I would not put one more dime in this hull.

4. Utilize the Forum where you can. I can only speak for myself but if it were possible to look at a hull in my general area for a member, I would. I have to believe there are more than just a hand full of members that will do the same. Just remember, at the end of the day, it's your decision. IMHO, I would not purchase anything that eats, sh!ts, floats or flies without seeing it myself. That leads us back to line 3. Those are costs you need to account for. The "time capsule" may be located in California but is it practical based on your budget?

All of the above is "stating the obvious" but with all due respect, we might not be having this conversation had at least some of it (by your own admittance) had been approached. I for one, would like to see you find the boat that fits your needs, desires and wallet. I feel, unless you really must have this hull, it's time to cut your loses and get back in the hunt.

Good luck with whatever you decide and with the same encouragement as you have past on to me, just remember, you got a lot of friends on this Forum.
