What happened to the Aquasport brand?
« on: May 10, 2010, 05:35:39 PM »
Just reading my new copy of Boatus and there is a story about"Genmar bankruptcy" on page 54 and its mostly a story about warranties but on pg56 it list all the brands that Genmar were the former owner of but doesn't list aquasport, now I know they "shelved" the brand several years ago but I thought they still owned it.Anybody know who owns the brand? Can I have it? I will start making the 17' ospreys in my garage and under the tree in the back.

Can I have the 250 Osprey molds, and a bigger shop to go with them?  Twin 200 Optis or Etecs...a REAL macerator for the fishbox...widen the fwd t-top legs so I didn't have to drill through 6" of deck and coring on top the fwd stringers to t/bolt them...Lenco tabs...a SERIOUS livewell pump...and a sleeper in the Haitian hatch!

Man, I love/loved that boat.  So where the hell are the molds?  Michigan?  Some boneyard around the plant?  Some warehouse off 301?  Hell, they'd probably give them to me...but they're kinda big...and I'd have to build a new shop...and I'd have to meet all these EPA reg's...naaawww, forget about it...

Anyone know who is building boats here?  Looks pretty shoestring.

Bob-Mike those molds are sitting over there off old 301 surrounded by ten foot weeds waiting on one of you.

Bob i hate to use this as a joke but if you have to meet EPA regs like BP did   your in the clear.

Only a couple of miles from me.  One day I'll just ride by and ask them.  What little I have seen from the highway it looks like a pretty good size boat.

Anyone know anything about these guys?  They claim Palmetto as well.

Its the owner of bayside marine, they added a lift strake to the 222 hull and are claiming its the "latest in cutting edge design" ....except he ripped off a near 40 year old  boat design, just like dorado. At least they aren't saying its something its not, and aren't denying its an aquasport.

I hope more people splash them and start making hulls, then they can all sue each other about who stole what first.

i saw a 245 mold for sale on ebay or craigslist not too long ago. it was just the hull, no top cap... one of my friends is looking into what it takes to start building/rebuilding boats. he asked what boat(s) i'd go from, i said AS 196, 222, and make a 25ft version of the 222...

I wonder who was selling it, and why they didn't have the deck mold...

I mean, I can see putting a different deck on it if that what the owner fancied, but there was nothing wrong with the Osprey or the Explorer deck...IMHO.
