Fair asking price for 1973 19'
« on: April 26, 2010, 08:30:59 AM »
What would you think is a fair asking price for a 1973 19 foot center console?  The boat has a 2001 125 hp that has worked perfectly.  The transom was rebuilt before we bought the boat (2002).  There is an older venture single axle trailer that hasnt been used in probably 4 years other than for winter storage of the boat (dec-april).  The trailer has bearing buddies but the lights are broken (physically broken, all the wiring was fine-lights got broken by the boatyard moving around the empty trailer).
The boat has a soft spot in the floor behing the 2 year old bench seat, the upped casting deck is solid.  Please let me know what you think is a fair asking price.  I have put a lot more into it than i am going to get out of it (of course) but i also dont want to ask too high of a price and sit on it forever.  I need to sell it because we just took delivery of our new (used) boat.
thanks and also, please let me know if you are interested.  I was going to post it in classifieds, once i can figure out an asking price.

Hey classicnoname,

Just a comment, shes appears to be older than 73. More like 69`-71` Is it a flatbottom or the slight pad type bottom at the transom? I dont believe she has the 12 degree V? Looks like she is in pretty nice shape though. I`m sure someone will comment on this shortly...

In my opinion the value of that rig is in the motor, get the fair market value of that year motor from a dealer and add maybe $1000-1500 for the boat and trailer.More than likely the deck and fuel tank need replacing and that trailer need alot of work.
Good luck with the sale.

thanks.  that would put it around the 4k range which is what i had been thinking .  We had already pulled out the old fuel tank (which was inside the console).

fitz- i am not sure what you mean about "slight pad type bottom"  i will try and get a picture of the transom.

Thats the bottom, see the little step to the left of transducer. Not a true pad in bass boat terms but a little pad none the less. It actually helps create a little more lift at the stern. It seems the 19`s got this transition bottom between the true flatbottom and the 12 degree V in 73`.

Thanks.  So are you saying the true 12 degree bottom was a 1973 and this is earlier or are you saying that this transition year is a 1973?  The registration says 1973 so that is what I am hoping it is.  There are no titles in NY for boats before 1975 (I think)

Thanks for your help.

One clue is to look for the serial number on the upper left or right corner, outside on the transom. Starting in 72` it became a requirement. If its 73` or newer it should actually have the year of manufacture as part of the serial number. I`m not sure exactly what month in 72`-73`model year the 12 degree V went into production. Earlier models may have only had a 3 or 4 digit code; maybe to designate which mold it came out of, really not sure. The other things I see are the older style console, placement and bow deck, but what is weired is that the bow deck storage hatches look 73`with the traditional vertical storage under deck being from earlier models. Maybe you have like the last 72` model produced after the traditional August model change over month and you have a 73` title.

thanks fritz.  The transom was completely redone and there are no serial numbers at all on there.  That is a big part of the problem.  In another thread it was mentioned that there could be hidden numbers under the rubrail, i tried to look and see if i could find anything without removing the rubrail but didn't see anything.

Well, you have a 73` title... Sell it as a 73`I guess. Curiously, what does it show for the Hull ID number on the title? Is it the old style 3-4 digit code or the 10-15 combination of letters and numbers ending with 73 and some letter?

Boat looks like a '73 - not a flatback or earlier version.  You can tell from the deadrise and the compound flare in the bow.

But you asked about price.  Here's the rule:

A boat is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

If someone is looking for a 73 or classic Aquasport, you've got a deal.  If not, then forget it.

Advertize based on what you've got - eBay, Craigs, etc. - you might find the person that wants your boat.

Good luck!
