Grouper
« on: April 05, 2010, 08:53:51 PM »
We went out Grouper fishing on Friday for the first time this year, fishing was slow, water still cold, caught a bunch of small ones and brought these home for dinner.

My wife Mary with her big one 26 inch.

And her 21 incher

My son Josh with his 22 incher, that's my daughter Ashleigh in the background she doesn't fish just likes the boat ride.

You my notice no pics of me,that's because my wife and son schooled me,but i was happy to see them do it.

Circle, nice job.  I went out on Saturday and managed to pull three legal size grouper (2 red and one gag).  Water is still a bit cold, so hoping to see better numbers once the water warms up.

Good stuff CH.  I'm dying to get out.  My freezer is empty and I'm having withdrawals.
Have plans for Friday with a buddy weather permitting.

Mind if I ask how deep?  I have plenty of numbers, just wondering how deep to start.

Scott,
The boat, AND the family, AND the fish are looking good!!!

Been talking to some realtors last couple of days to get Maggies' Mom's place sold on Bee Ridge...kind of have that "I miss Sarasota" thing going on right now.

And I don't mind 10th St. on a Tues. morn, but I prefer City Island...

Can't say i blame you,i have no plans on ever leaving, and as far as ramps,i agree with City Island but during snow bird season it's a trip in itself just to get there.

70-80ft out of Sarasota is a pretty long haul - 25-30 miles? Water looked nice and calm for you though.

I bet     When Dave and I pulled in there in Nov before the last gathering and each took >100 gals, she was real happy.  I still have 3/4 of that.

I am up in DC right now - will try to get some good pics of the cherry blossoms while I'm here and post them this weekend - they are gorgeous - just need to find a good place to take some pics. Not going to the Mall so have to find them where I'm at.

25-30 mi. is not much if you want nice grouper but the new reduced bag limits and gas prices take all the interest out of going way out.  I had a friend up in Largo with a 33 Grady.  We used to go to the Florida Middle Grounds a couple of times per year.  That's 75 - 90 statute miles one way plus running around after you get there.  We would leave in the afternoon, run for 3 hours, then fish until we could not stay awake.  Back up at daylight, fish until 12-1PM, then make the run back.  We had some super trips but no one I know can afford it anymore.
