91 WAC Enclosure
« on: March 22, 2010, 02:49:21 PM »
The 1992 docs (Photo Gallery Forum) states the 21' and 23' EX had an enclosed hardtop option.
While no photo is in the brochure, there are line drawings showing both Rick's and my hull (91) with and without the enclosure.

I freely admit, while not overly practical in Fla., I do have a "pilothouse fetish" so.....
I've been looking for one of these OEM enclosures.

Our good neighbors to the north provided me with this.

Surely not everyone's cup of tea but retro none the less.
It would fit in very well here in the Panhandle.

Funny, I thought the same thing.

I wonder if the "wing vent" slides or pivots in/out? Something on the lines of the earlier EF windshields at the bottom.

CB - I would bet Aquasport did not manufacture that top - got it from somewhere else and installed it.  Maybe you could find who made it and contact them.  It might still be available if it's used by some other boat builder.

See ya on the water!

I'll bet you're right CJ.

I've tried several searches but that pic has been it. Still it's a lot more than I had (line drawing). I asked if the marina would snap a few more pics but nothing so far.

It may be that Aqua installed the window framework and placed the hardtop on last to give the whole setup rigidity. Or like you said, it was outsourced and then delivered to the factory.

I was hoping to find something closer so I could actually see how the whole deal attaches and if the "roll down" windows are manual or electric

Bob
are you tryin to put this on your boat? And if so could it be custom made  I'm no boat builder but it looks like the old windshield was taken off and replaced with glass frames and a hardtop bolted together is there a back side in the cockpit or is it three sided

It appears three sided. I don't believe it's closed but....
Other than this pic, I have never seen one before.

I can almost guarantee the side windows do not open - the need to be rigid for support.  However, the front windshields may open out - that gives a great breeze while underway.  I had a similar hardtop setup on one of my Chris-Craft cruisers - solid side glass with opening windshields - really nice on a hot day when underway with the windshields open, and very nice in bad weather with them closed.    If the hardtop is substantial enough, you can even put a bridge up there...     Not sure I would do that on anything less than a 10 foot beam and 28 or so feet long.

This coming from a man with a steering wheel blender/fillet table.

No CJ, I'd bet you're right about the side windows, unless that vertical support that forms the triangle allows for that small section to swing in/out (like on a 50s era car) for ventilation. While it sounds great, I'm not sure the windshield moves in either direction. I think I see wiper blades on the shield in that area, and where would those go? Did you have wipers on your CC?

Anyway, as I stated earlier, I was fascinated by the line drawings I found in the reference section of the Forum and was just searching for a photo of same. I really do like the look. The roll of the hardtop and the extension over the front and side glass looks so "different" However, it's not really practical for the heat here in Fla. though the protection would be great (too much time spent in an unprotected CCP), but.........

Never say never, and if I came across one, I'm not sure that I wouldn't buy it.
I just think it's a different look and one that Aqua offered to the dealers in the Great White North.

Anyone see one, give me a yell.
Thanks. :thumleft:

CB: yes, the wipers mount from the top and swivel up and down with the glass.  Almost all CC "Express" Cruiser had this option for the hardtop.  Actually, Rain-X works as well as the wipers did...

Keep an eye out  :cyclops:  and you may find a hardtop that works!
