I filled up the 230 for the last gathering at Max's and still have about 3/4 of a tank.  The last time I took the 170 out I didn't bother going down there to add the 12gal I put in because I knew I was going to run it right back out again. running to Boca and back.  I have not put any gas in the 170 since then but will go to them when I do.  I just don't get to use the boats that much in the winter :(
Spring is coming quickly here   :thumleft:  :thumright:  :D

Hello, FishandPickin.  I'm new to ClassicAquasport as well, thought I'd chime in about your repower.
My Dad used to be an AquaSport dealer in Perry, FL...Crews Marine.  The base engine for the 170 was an 88 Special either Evinrude or Johnson which performed quite nicely, but not quite as fast as your 115 and probrably similar in weight.  Sorry don't have any performance data.  If you're set on getting a new motor my pick would be the Optimax 90 direct fuel injected, it outperforms the 4 strokes easily with less weight.  Ditch the jackplate idea, just gonna make it sit down that much deeper and this is not a speed hull....it takes very little trim to get the bow up and these hulls do tend to porpoise so adding a jackplate is gonna make matters worse.

What a small world.

I got catalogs for 95,97,04 and 05 from your Dad while in Perry having a new tank built.

Welcome aboard.

Good luck with the repower.

I had an 87 17 ft Osprey.
First year was a 2 stroke 1983 Merc Tower of Power 115 hp-dangerously fast and scuppers underwater.

Last two years, 70 hp 2004 Suzuki 4s.  Perfect, cruise at 25 and top out at 30, no problem getting on plane with 2 guys, cooler of ice and full livewell. Fuel efficiency was great, scuppers underwater.

Sold it this fall, bought 1972 22 ft sport and really considering a suzuki 115 hp 4s.

Thanks to everyone for their opinions on my subject. I have decide to go with the 90 2 stroke yamaha. Got decent deal and will stay away from jack plate. the weight will be 100 pounds lighter than my 115 2 stroke.

Just picked up a "93" 17.5 osprey today. Had a shot 115 yamaha with a jack plate, so i talked them into selling it to me without the engine. I also plan to put a 90 2stk yamaha on mine off of a skiff I have, was a little worried about the performance but after reading a lot of the post here I feel better.

let me know how she runs after you get it back, if you don't mind.

I don't know if I have the heaviest motor out of all the 170s. I have a 130 Yamaha 2S (379 lbs). The scuppers are underwater; however, they were underwater when I had a 90 HP mariner (320+ lbs), and a 75 Merc (265). The 50-60 lbs weren't that much of a difference.

I want to thank everyone for their comments and ideas of repowering my 17.5 Auqasport. I went with a 2 stroke 90 hp Yamaha and lost 80 pounds and the boat runs great and steers a lot better than it use to. My scuppers are barley in the water and I only lost 2 mph. Thanks for all your help. See ya on the water and hopefully now i wont be tied to a buoy marker waiting on the coast gaurd.
