Granny's Chicken and Pastry
« on: January 25, 2010, 07:30:51 PM »
Who could go for some chicken and pastry?

Haven't tried this yet but was recommended.  Came from a church cookbook; gotta be good, those girls are serious(and competitive!)

Looks easy too.

Looks good and easy - 2 of my favorite things!!

I always wonder about recipes from folks who list themselves as "She is a member of South River EMC."  I hope they did not get their recipes from victums they responded to!

Now I'm getting hongry again - and where's that blender?

PS....Don't forget to render off the chicken fat as the chicken boils. Use a large spoon and scoop the grease from the side of the pot....gotta have healthy arteries to catch those big-uns.... :)

Capn' John, you're a hoot!!

Keep up the good work!

Addendum:

Keep adding water as needed....darn near burnt(scalded) it tonight with the recipe stolen by that ambulance lady...... :( . After you peel off the cooled chix and throw it back in pot, cook another 20 min or so for the flavors to blend. Add salt, SPILL pepper in by mistake. Stick around, will let you know how we feel in the morning.

I feel good! It was really fine, consumed two large troughs. Keep the pastry thinner than they say, though, and make sure to well-sift the flour. It makes its own gravy after the chicken goes back in.

Cap'n John, don't be a'feared of the ambulance lady....try this one out... :rabbit:

I'll try it!  :thumright:

And if you boil it long enough, Granny can eat it without her dentures in...

See ya on the water!
