First Aquasport. 225 Osprey

Just bought this Osprey knowing very little about the boat.  Wow, what a ride.  Thrilled with the performance.  Actually turns out to be a little more boat than I want for the lake it is going to live on.  Took her 50 miles off Hilton Head for our first trip yesterday and it was a great trip.  Fantastic entry, no jarring even when out further than intended.  Left with full canvas returned with a sunroof.

I would consider selling for a smaller lighter boat for the lake, but after enjoying this ride, this very ocean worthy small boat may be destined to be a lake fisher.

I guess you all knew this already or there would not be a site dedicated to Aquasport.

Congrats!  Chances are I built her after she was decked.  Obviously need to replace that T-Top canvas, LOL!  250 Zuke, I take it, can't see the back end of the cowling.  Kind of makes that oil fill obsolete, doesn't it?

Yes question!  Do you think the oil fill would be a good location for the beer tap?
Is it better to cut t top lowers and take them to deck or simply add stand offs on the corners of console?
How big is bait tank?  What so I need for risers/pipe?  Nothing included.
If I replace the trim planes should I go slightly larger than the 12x12?
Wiring is a mess! I am kinda up tight about this.  Can I cut a matching hole opposite the one existing to make room and clean things up if I rewire?
The floor is solid as a rock no soft spots anywhere.  Anything I need to be concerned about or should I enjoy a great old hull and fish fish fish?

It is a 200 Zuk.  41mph WOT but only 5200 rpm.  29 cruise at 4000.

You should be turning more revs than that. What prop do you have?
I know this summer when I got to drive Badonq's 19-6 you had to watch the trim angle or it would overrev and go into protect mode. I think that limit was right at 6000 or so.

Actually, I have no idea what the hull entry angle was on my vintage AS Osprey/Explorers was, but I can tell you this.  In 4-6 confused Gulf chop, anybody sitting aft of the helm will be wet...very wet.

The hulls of these models were basically designed to run in the Atlantic, where you have "swells", rather than the close wave period we have here on the gulf side, due to the shallowness of the water.

That being said, trimming out will get more of the hull out of the water, putting the "break" further aft.  When offshore, this is no big deal.

In Sarasota Bay, with twin 150 Fichts on a 250 Osprey, we saw 54 MPH on the GPS, right around Ringling Flats...with a dual station, I was upstairs...Damn, that was a fun weekend!

Ran 50 off of Hilton Head and was impressed with the hull.

sorry to jack this thread but hey bob (seabob), we have a 250 osprey with twin 150's and the tourney package in our High and dry, the guy rarely uses it and you may be able to pick it up cheap :pirat:  just a thought

Hijacking is a MILD term, in this case!

She looks great, power is questionable (of course, Fichts, RAM or not).  Can you snap me 2 pics?  One of the helm wiring (pull down the vinyl flap), and the ass-end wiring starboard-side where the breaker box is?  Those 2 pics will tell me if it is my boat...

I'm sure no offense was intended.  So let's assume a '00 model, some electronics (I see a GPS antenna up there, but can't see the electronics flat on the dash), but probably outdated anyway, Ficht power, low hours if he's the original, no trailer...$12K is what she'll fetch.  Hey, she sold for $60K new, 10 years old with questionable power, no trailer, today's market...yeah, that's about right...

Mike, out of Hilton Head, in the good 'ole Atlantic, how did she feel?  What kind of seas?  Headseas?  Quartering?  Following?  Once again, Aswaff didn't mean it...

I am far from sensitive about a forum thread.  No worries at all.

Seas were great. 2-3 with light winds.  following off port quarter on the way out and of courese opposite on the way in but laying down to a nice flat sea.

Handled pretty well.  This trip was my first in many ways.  Smallest boat, single engine, new boat to me.  I ran about 27mph on the trip out and 30+ home.  She launched a bit more than I would have liked but slid right back into the water smoothly.  At no time did I feel uneasy.  The fishing was great too.
