Move the wheel
« on: December 06, 2009, 10:01:30 AM »
Ok here is the problem. I removed the  original helm seat on my 275 Explorer and installed a new one on a short pedestal in order to gain more vision when running, now I need to do something with my wheel because its to far away because I am sitting up higher.I am thinking of going to a 15 inch wheel and using some sort of bezel to move it closer does anybody make a bezel that would serve the purpose or should I fabricate something.

I have the the same problem in my Explorer - the test/design driver must have been 6'6" - so I'm thinking about putting a little longer seat support/pipe in.  Seems I'm always straining to see while cruising - another 8-10" seat height would be perfect.  I don't think the wheel size would be a problem but I guess I won't know until I change everything.

Rick you will have the same problem if you sit that much higher.I found a 15" 25 degree destroyer wheel that should help me out plus building the helm out another 1 1/2" from the console should do it .I made a mock up to put over my existing wheel to try it out.I also have to come up with a foot rest plan. Its beginning to snowball already.
