replacing a transom
« on: December 02, 2009, 04:53:21 PM »
I have seen many post that people redue/replace transomes and have seen some great work. My question is what process do you go through to do the work? How does the new repair attach to the stringers etc...  I know mine will need to be done in the future and with the right information I think I could do the work. I am good with my hands and mech. inclined, not gonna do anything major eyt but would like to know how its done.

Lilrichards thread is a great example, I think he used polyester which I personally can't handle the smell but his methods and planning are excellent. When you start lamming it together make sure to have at least one other person to help mix. This makes the process much easier!
Here is a link, I think his transom startson page 4 or 5 Good Luck and lets see some pics!

You should consider a Seacast transome rapair. I did my 1973 19'6 transome with Seacast through the 07-08 winter and I couldn't be happier with the rebuild. It's rock solid and will never rot or get waterr logged.
