Tampa to Key Largo and back again. Just over 600 miles and a few stops like the Last Chance Bar, The Caribbean Club, Mandalay Bay Tiki Bar.

Traverse City, MI to Indianapolis. 400 miles each way. And my Dakota felt every transmission-straining mile.

I bet.  I'm surprised it would pull a boat that big at all - so what do you pull her with now?

The Dakota still but just locally. It's a 4x4 with a 4.7l V8. It pulls it up out of the water like there's nothing back there which is really nice. Towing it seven miles or so to the boat launch isn't exactly pleasant but it's safe enough.

My Tundra has the 4.7L and is 4x4 but is a lot heavier I would suspect.  Do you have to put it 4W to get her out?

Probably not but I do anyway. The thought of the boat dragging my poor little truck into the water isn't really that appealing.

Prior Lake, MN to near Pelican Lake in the Nisswa, MN area twice for the '86 222 CCP - once to check it out & once to pick it up - about a 330-340 mile round trip x2.

A combo trip for the trailer.  Minneapolis/St.Paul area to Alachua, FL to check the trailer, stopped for a university visit for our youngest daughter in Gainesville, drove on to a friend-of-a-friends condo on Sanibel Island, stayed for a 5-6 days and picked up the trailer from Classic AS member Aland in Gainesville on the way back.  Daughter's priority was the campus visit, my wife's priority was checking out the school and the stay at Sanibel - and both were important/great, no doubt - but the trailer was also major factor on my agenda.  I figured the trailer part of the trip was just under 3,000 miles - very good thing that no one else in the household figured it that way. :thumright:

I've been there, but I had the Dakota with the 3.9V6, 2WD, and you could definitely tell the boat was back there.  I burned the clutch up in that truck pulling my boat out of the ramp/backing it in the yard.  Sold it to some unsuspecting guy.  I'm much happier with my brand new 1994 F150 4.9/300ci. :)

To add to the thread, I walked out of my front door after my Uncle dropped the boat off at my house.  It was like a blind date.

I know... considering how much trouble my little 3.9 Dakota had, it was at its upper limit with the 19-6.  I used to have a company RAM w/ the 4.7, and it was really a fairly powerful engine.  I knew the 4x4 Dakotas w/ the V8 were solid tow vehicles, but to hear of one pulling a 245 is pretty impressive.

The low end torque of my Dakota is pretty impressive. I've pulled many much larger trucks out of snowy ditches the past few years. It pulls my 245 - it's just not real happy about it.

Bought mine from a buddy that lives about 2 miles away. Even kept the slip so the boat never moved!

Went all the way from sarasota fl to brandon fl . Floated the little 175 off of his trailer to mine on the Alafia river. Then pulled it back to sarasota, round trip 100 or so miles , total time 2.5 hrs.Sorry that I'm so late to get in on this but I've been working on getting her rigged and in the water ..Launched her last sunday with my trusty old yamaha 90 on her and real happy with how she performed . Still more to do to tweak her out .
