I was looking for info about the 222 ccp on the site and I seen that some of you think that this hull is not made for the ocean.I thought with the high bow that it would cut right thru the waves, not so???

Weather permitting, you can go offshore in a jon boat.
Dry, the 222CCP weights in at a manufactured 2200 pounds.
2-4 foot seas and you're going to bang and get wet.
3 feet or less, you'll have a good time.

I have to laugh when I read about how they handle 5-6 foot seas with no problem. Most boats don't and those that do still bang you around.
They're great boats though. Sharp looking, run fast with proper power and handle well.
Fun to work on (for the most part) and easy to trailer.
What more could you ask for? :thumright:

As Bob said, most boats will not be real comfortable in anything over 3'.  5-6, and a 50 isn't much fun!

The boats will handle it, it is usually the owners that have the problem.  Over here on the gulf, where we have shallow waters out to 100 miles, a 2-4 day is like being in a washing machine, unlike the east coast, where you have "swells".  2-4 ain't :*: in the ocean.  Different bodies of water and different bottom characteristics means 2-4, 3-5, 5-8 mean different things...

Perfectly stated.
I hate to say it but I enjoyed my CCP a lot more on the Atlantic side than the Gulf.

Fellas, I'm blessed to have tourney fished the 222 and 250CCP's in KMT'S back in the 80's/90's. here in NC (Southport to Morehead)

We typically have rough slop here; long swells are a nice day.

The 222 CCP was and is a terrific fishing platform. The ride out was so-so. Lotta bow slap, wet, rough. I amend that by saying we were always in a hurry...... tab the bow down, tweak it, pull the speed, the boat would be a good-un.

Great forward coffin, too.

Love the flat deck, and walk-around ability in the heat of battle.

Later fished a 250CCP, bought new by my next door neighbor here in NC, around 1978. The hull cracked after one year of moderate use, around 1979.

The 250CCP  was authorized for repair by
Aquasport with a local specialist at that time, NL Silva of Wilmington, NC. He was later re-builder of the famous Simmons Sea Skiff. Silva added around 350 lbs. of forward placed glass to the 250CCP ; she rode like a dream.

She was  powered by twin 130 Yammies, to keep the weight down.

The 250CCP rode with a very soft re-entry...IMHO, due to the extra glass, weight in the bow/mid-area.

Nice ride, fast, too.

Just my thoughts looking back.

Best,

Scott
