How many gallons of fuel is my 19-6 tank?
« on: November 22, 2009, 05:02:29 PM »
Hey all,

1973 aquasport 19-6... under floor tank, its aluminum appears to b original. It looks identical to the tanks ive seen on here(vent placement, inlet, etc) I am under total reconstruction right now and the boat has a yamaha vmax 225 on it, im thinking while im getting really deep into this boat why not get a larger tank? I want to be able to go a decent distance offshore and not have to worry about fuel. Thank you all in advance!

If its the original tank it should be 50 gallons.

You did say 225hp on a 19-6 correct?

The reason I ask is because these boat were rated for a max HP of 185.  I have a 90hp on my 19-6, albeit minimum powered, it still gets up on a plane quick and tops out at about 30mph.  I know alot of guys on here are very happy (performance wise) with motors in the 150hp range. Anyway, to increase your range, maybe consider both a larger tank and a smaller motor.

Don't forget that when these hulls were rated the horsepower was at the crank. Now they are rated at the prop. So 185 at the head =~ 150 at the prop.

Skoot,

Yes you read it correctly. The 19-6 does have a 225 yamaha vmax on it with a paralift. To be honest I have not been on the boat yet, but the previous owner said that it rides like a dream, will plane almost instantly, it basically jumps out of the water with a full throttle, which is what I need when fishing skinny water, it prevents me from those dreadful 35 minutes idles to deeper water! e said the boat will GPS 52-55 mph loaded down with gear, fuel and anglers. I also have have a full tower, 6 batteries, now a bigger tank etc, it is a HEAVY boat. Need the power.

Gran398,
When the transom was redone and made into a full transom the scupperswere moved up a bit to accomidate the extra weight of that beast of a motor! So no, they are not underwater...

Badonaquasport196,

Couldn't you glass over the old scuppers, glass in that back troth where they currently are so the floor is continued to the transom and add floor suppers and drill new holes? that would give you at least 2-3 more inches! By the way does anyone know a good source in florida where i could get a new custom tank for my 196? It currently is 50 gal, but id feel much more comfortable with having at least 60-70 gallons...

Thanks,
Chris

Lets see some pics, I got a 74 proline 20' with a 200 merc on a extended floatin bracket and it gets high 40's and i have no problem with scuppers under water they may have been moved up when it was restored but i did not do it. and my a$$ end does not squat one bit i float real shallow i love it. Just watch the turns at high speeds go slow and wide.
