Terrific! You have a lot to be proud of.....and look at the bucks you saved!

And probably most importantly, you KNOW the job is right, and knowing you'll probably be doing the rigging/wiring yourself...another plus.

NICE!

Gran,

I have no clue where to even start with wiring anything, different volts, how to wire parallel etc. I actually worked something out with a master Diesel Mechanic that works on my parents boat. I work for a glass company and traded out installing all the windows on his house for free, if he would wire the entire boat, I supply the materials. Labor for Labor deal. He agreed no problem! I got lucky, especially since he may be one of the few people who are more anal than I am about the quality of my work. I know he will do a job that is above and beyond anything I would be able to do, or what a local marina would do, simply because he knows me and my family and most important, he cares!!!! He has to be one of the cleanest and professional mechanics I've ever seen, he doesn't cut any corners. Best part is he is lightening quick too. And to be able to go out in the boat without having to worry about if I wired something correctly is priceless, my last boat caught fire due to the fact some bozo ran wires too small for the amount of current and melted/shorted everything! When he gets done I'll be taking plenty of pictures and you will see what I mean! :pirat:

It is nice that the hard grinding is done, but all I did was swap out a grinder for a sander! Just as bad in my eyes!

Today I cut all of the flooring glass and numbered all pieces. I am running with 8" mat tabs and 8" 1708 tab around the deck to hull. Then a 50" layer of 1 1/2 oz mat from left to right with a 6" overlap in each section going up both sides. Follow that with a 50" layer 1708 left to right and up the sides with an offset overlap for strength.

I also go the back transom piece cut out of composite and the front compartment cut out as well. Started to make the supports for the sides also. This weekend was a lot of prep work, next weekend will be the big one with glassing the floor down!

Nutts,

She's smokin' bro. You remember when you went to the high school prom, and there was that one girl everyone went bonkers over?

Well...deja vu', the past is the present....you're holding the blue-eyed blond. Excellent effort, what a fine job you've accomplished.

Hope this is politically correct. (The blue-eyed blond part). Thanks.

Skoot,
Thanks buddy, it means a lot when you guys chime in and give support, keeps the head up and moving forward! The tower in this boat is probably taller than it needs to be for this particular boat. It is a full tower, 7 feet from deck to standing level of second station. The seat is almost 4 feet above the standing level. I figure that when flats fishing, with the power pole down, if I stand on top of that seat on 2nd station, including my height, ill be about 18 feet in the air, eye level. There is not a redfish, snook, or tarpon that will be safe!

Gran,
I appreciate all the support throughout this build thus far! It's been a rough road and a ton of money and opportunity costs, but seeing it come together has made it worth it for me! Stay tuned for the real fireworks coming up within the next couple weeks.

Question for everyone:

I know not a darn thing about props for outboards. This motor is currently running a Solas 14 1/4 x 17 prop. Engine specs: 2001 yamaha vmax ox66 225 hp 2stroke. I don't know if this set up sounds about right, or if it seems odd to anyone. Haven't had her in the water yet to know about top RPM's or top speed, but does this set up sound about right?

Thanks all...

thanks fitz,

The previous owner said the boat would GPS 54 MPH with WOT, as it sat with water logged stringers, wet transom etc. I don't know if that helps anyone with the prop pitch situation?
Is there a calculation or standards guide to give you an idea of what should be on there?
Is Solas a good prop for an outboard? I had a racing jet ski that had a solas impeller on it which was the best for jet skis, but not sure about outboards?
On there currently is a 3 blade prop, benefits of a 4 blade?

First we need to know your gear ratio and Yamaha`s recommended full throttle RPM range, then we can back out a starting pitch using some math calculations and we should be able to understand how fast she will run. Your tower may throw in a little guess work as far as drag goes. I`m not sure if Solas makes any real performance propellers or not. I`m a huge Stilletto fan and for the $350-$450 range they are hard to beat. You just need to find some loaner props to start off with. I can't believe that boat was running a 17 pitch and you still have a powerhead in one piece. Must of had a bunch of water in her!

fitz,

WOT RPM min 4500 max 5500
Gear Ratio 16:29 (1.81:1)

Recommended prop size according to site 14 1/4 x 21 for top speed and performance 14 1/4 x 19 for water sports & heavy loads. Recommends a 4 blade prop for bay boats. Agree?

Also, what do you mean by the powerhead comment and had a bunch of water up in her?

Thennuts,
What I meant was the engine seemed severly underpropped with a 17 on that boat; meaning that the engine must have been over the rpm redline at full throttle unless the boat was so heavy and waterlogged that the engine could only turn a 17 pitch.
