Holy crap!!!! And I thought you were kidding about how bad a job they did!!! Are you going to finish it out yourself? Two ways to fix it. Remake the original box stringers like timga or foam like lilrich or shine's. If you haven't looked at their threads go into members list and enter the first letter then look in their post list for their main threads. Shine's is a tutorial on http://www.bateau2.com.

I cannot believe they would stack the wood like that!
I also can't believe how wet the wood was, everything would have cracked in the future

slvrlng,

Thanks for the tips!!! Hey I was given this thread from another one of my posts, this guy built one awsome boat. Check out the way he did his stringers, I sorta wanted to do the same thing with divinyfoam, etc. Almost mock the rebuild... Tell me what you think.

Yeah thats one of them. An absolutely beautiful job! Soon mine is going to be cut up as well so between the two of us we can keep each other going. Be sure and check out tim's thread also. I talked to him a couple of months ago and he still hasn't finished his yet. He built plywood forms and remade his stringers! Very intresting reading. Good luck and show us what you decide to do.

Well that's either a "space age" composite attachment device or a drywall screw. :?

Marcq: Don't worry I keep chipping away at this and getting all sorts of pics to take this guy to court. I mean I would compare the quality of work with a 5 year old finger painting! It looks bad in the pics, but its even worse if you saw it first hand!

Capt Bob: Yes, those screws are $4.95 each! They are rust proof and have a weight load rating of 2 tons! I mean come on you cant even get stainless? Not that it would make this mess any better because it can't get any worse, but drywall screws? I shake my head everyday I go over there after work and see this thing  :pukel: . But, I still see hope and still see a beautiful boat when I am done! 8)

How did you come upon this shop? Did someone refer this shop to you?  Are they "friends of friends"? Did you get references?  Did you check out the references?  How long have they been in business? Any BBB complaints? Were they the cheapest bid you got (by a lot I bet).
Not bashing you at all - just seems like this is a poster child of all of the above not done before signing contract.  Good checklist for people about to pull the trigger on a rebuild.

Rickk,

I came about this shop from a guy whom I work with. Said he knew a guy in fiberglass and detailing business. SO I took his number and gave him a ring to ask some questions. He said to check out his website www.zenrd1.com to see some of his work. The pictures and gel coat matching etc looked great so I called him back and asked him to come over to take a peek at the boat. He came over, I explained what I wanted and he put together a professional  quote(detailed steps, process. We discussed it a bit etc etc etc He also brought over his FLA business lisc and insurance. He currently is doing a 120' boat(paint and detailing). Also brought over a portfolio of over 150 boats of what he has done, looked fantastic. TRUST me I did my homework, Im not an idiot, I didnt hand it over to a redneck in trailer park and said have fun. I work too hard for my money. But I can tell you what happened. I found out he SUBED the work out to a guy who works for him detailing, which clearly has no experience in the glass biz, while he worked on the yacht. You could see it in his face when I went to pick it up. He did not monitor the build, assuming that his guy would be ok to do it!

Does anyone have a suggestion of how to support the hull/gunnels on the boat so it does not twist on me with the stringers out? I thought about 2 x 4's from left to right? Maybe Im way off I need some help. Thanks in advance!

Chris,  is the hull sitting on its trailer bunks?  The important thing is to keep the bottom well supported.  The cap will pull the top edges of sides into line.  I built a strongback with bunks to hold the hull's form.  Also, Shine's rebuild tutorial describes the steps he took.

I browsed that "Zen" site.  The gelcoat jobs look fine but none of them were structural.  I about threw up when I saw the transom repair they did on the I/O boat.  That was a incompetent job.  To just cut out an area around the out-drive and build it back up created a weak spot where the all the force is.  Not to mention they didn't even build the patch up to full thickness.  They may be good with body work but they don't seem to know about structural matters.

Sorry you had to go through that.  Even with litigation its going to cost you plenty.

MD
