Picture #1 is the 2" center stringer I added of the Michigan Composites
Picture #2 is a close up of the center stringer that I used resin/cabosil putty to glue first
Picture #3 is my final layer of 1708. There is a total of 3 layers on the floor in this order:
1 1/2 oz mat
1708 30" x 50"
1708 34" x 50"
1708 38" x 50"

If you notice I had to place relief cuts in the cloth. Otherwise you will spend too much time on each section trying to get it perfect to only come up with a big long wave which you will need to grind out. These stress cuts really help out and let you get through the project before the resin kicks.

Picture #4 is the final product.

Check back in soon for more pictures!

I wonder if there is any real need for the center stringer?  Something to keep the fuel tank off the hull?

When I tore this thing apart it had a center stringer in it. SO right off the bat I ripped the old rotted one out and replaced it with this wood free system. I have heard that it is nice to have for a few reasons. One of them being the fuel tank has a place to sit. It also beefs up the centerline of the boat which takes a ton of abuse. To be honest im not 100% sure Rickk, i took one out and put one back in. I think that SEABOB may be able to answer this one better!

Thanks gran398. Wait until the bulkheads start going in, this boat will define the word "beef"!

Always fun to check the Hammerhead site for rebuild reference. Looks like they change things up depending on the job...But...

Many of their rebuilds show a short-in-height centerline longitudinal, really can't properly be called a stringer....but its there.

Their link on-site. Enjoy.

Question about your layering on the floor, are the three layers of mat on top of each other or is this from front to back?

So, I have a ton of pictures but even when I put the pictures into "medium" which is well under the size allowed it still says they are over 600 high which photobucket says its not. I guess you can get the picture of my progress from above.

There is a total of 5 bulkheads down each row, 5 left, 5 middle, 5 right. There is one more towards the transom that you can not see. I am actually going a little different with my build. I am totally doing away with the step up compartment in the front and making the deck one continuous deck. It will work better for me. The deck will be raised between 1 3/4" and 2" when it is said and done with glass. I am also going to use 12 lb floatation foam in all compartments except 3 of them. This will help wit buoyancy and will also give more area of bonding with the floor. 12 lb foam is like concrete as far as hardness.

Question about your layering on the floor, are the three layers of mat on top of each other or is this from front to back?
I laid down 1 1/2 mat as my base with minimal overlaping, maybe 3-4 inches. Next I laid down 3 layers of 1708 with an overlaping of a minimum 10". With each layer I switched up the way I laid it, 1st layer I started in the front, then next started from the back, then started from the front. This allows me not to have a huge build up and constantly switching up with overlaping. It will make it stronger and help with high build ups in areas.

Next, I will begin the glass process with all these bulkheads and build up the areas in between the bulkheads.

Hope you like the progress!

Oh and where you see the large space in between the #2 and #3 center bulkhead that is where I am putting my new tank. It will be 65 gallons. I need to order that this week. Anyone have a clue where to get a good quality tank at a fair price? Im in SWFL

Lookin' good Chris. :thumleft:

Are some of the "too high" pics taken with the camera vertical rather than horizontal?

Chris,

VERY impressive. Particularly like your take on the overlap/ build-up, so as not to waste glass/resin to sanding. Sweet.

You ready to move up to a vintage, virgin 22-2?....I know of one....

Good job, and thanks.
