1975 19-6 aka Time Capsule w/pics
« on: November 02, 2009, 09:58:25 PM »
After searching high and low (approx. 2yrs) for a classic 19-6, I finally found The One. I drove all over the state of FL looking at 19-6's that either needed too much work for me to complete or had some problems and the price was not negotiable.  My wife kept telling me that the "right one" will come around, but I was beginning to doubt that.  With help from this site, I was getting messages/posts from members across the country with links to Classic 19-6's that were for sale. Finally slvring sent me a link on Friday and I could not believe what I was looking at.  The original owner had some health problems 6 months after purchasing the boat and It sat in a garage for the next 25yrs. The second owner continued to store the boat under shelter and keep the boat in near perfect condition.  I made the drive on Sunday Nov. 1, 2009 and I could not believe that almost everything on this vessel is original, shiny and near perfect condition. I officially/finally became the 3rd owner of the this classic Time Capsule.

Check out the latch that holds the filp console/seat in place.

Thanks guys, Im so stoked about this boat. Its been a loooong wait.  I cant wait to take it out this weekend.

If any of you want more detailed pics of certain parts of the boat, just let me know and I will post some. I know slvring wants a detailed shot of the console/seat latch.

So what's your future plan with her? She looks like she doesn't need much, a bit of work on the console, maybe new trim lock molding all around the gunwale, refinishing the teak and she will look like a million bucks!

Marc..

Im thinking of doing the teak first. (what is the best way? Sand then teak oil?) Defiantly the console, and a few other holes around cap.   The trim lock molding is in great condition just a little moldy.  I also want to cut a hatch in the stern and put a bilge pump in.  The only other thing would be to add a livewell/leaning post combo, or a leaning post with a livewell underneath.

One thought - are the Scuppers on the bow of the boat really necessary?  I know they are for ventilation, but i've never seen them on newer boats. (Dorado, Gause, etc)

I sand/varnish mine but there's so many ways protecting teak, I'll leave it to the expert

You could try gelcoat touch up, if you can't match to color at least it will be ready for painting with a bit of sanding

Yeah, good idea. I'm surprise there wasn't any

Tell you what, I was going to get rid of my original  cooler seat (like yours)and I'm sure glad I didn't, that thing is so practical(you could make a livewell out of it). Your boat is so original , if it was mine I would try to keep it that way , even the steering I would keep, looks classic

Don't think they are original, just for show, I would leave them for now or else you'll have big holes to fill in
When you have the chance of keeping a boat like this original, IMO is a big plus

The vents are original on the 19-6 at least and the reason you don't see them on newer boats is they use vent blowers or so I believe
