It's been awhile. Haven't gotten much done.  Cut out the plywood that someone had installed under where the coffin would be.  No wood here, RIGHT!  It was solid, I'll give them that.  It wouldn't have been so bad but they didn't glass any of the wood that they put in.

Hey keith how thick is your deck? The total thickness. It looks alot thinner in the pic's, then what my 81 is. My 81 looks to be 3/4 of a inch thick. At least in the front, were the two hatch covers are.

My rebuild is a 1988 222 ccp and my plywood in my deck is a 1/2 inch with a heavy layer of glass top and bottom. The quality of the glass work on my boat is bad so I am laying up the entire inside bottom and inside the stringers with two layers of 1708 (on top of one layer of 1-1/2 oz mat) Can you say LOTS OF RESIN!!! This project has no end and for what boats are going for here I would have been able to buy two for what I will have in this one. Good to see some 222 ccp's on here wish there were more.

Decks on CCPs from late 70s through about 1990 were 1/2" marine ply with glass overlay on the top and bottom.  The decks sit on the stringers, with the center open and the outboard areas foamed.  A storage bin was installed in front of the coffin area, but - and this is pretty interesting - some boats did not have a hatch installed to give access to the forward storage bin.    I've seen some CCPs without the hatch, but when you look under the deck (through the deck plate under the coffin), you see the storage bin has been molded in - weird, huh?

See ya on the water!

Yea I guess for different years they did different things to the boat, but kept things that where molded in. In place and just covered them over. I'm going to replace my deck this winter. But I'm going to take out the glass deck as one piece. Like a friend did. Then use a different matl. other then wood and cover it back over with the old glass. After a little work on the under side. Then you only have to deal with the thin seam. My friend was able to do it and keep his deck original. He then just sprayed a thin coat of gel on the floor. Also thanks guys for the info. I will now set my cutter just to get through the glass and into the wood.

nice color!!! I cut my deck out 7 inches in all the way through all the way around then removed it. Then cut through the top layer and the plywood 3 inches all the way around  leaving the lower layer of glass as a place for the new deck to sit. The deck is made up of many small peices of 6"x6" 1/2 plywood. Both top and bottom layers of glass are 1/8 plus thick of glass. The real weight is in the fuel tank and front storage tubs they are made from very thick glass and I'd bet the two together are over 300 pounds. I am not putting the tubs back in and am glassing a lower deck between the bottom of the stringers front and rear. This gives a ton more storage and gives you storage behind the fuel tank. I took 40 plus garbage bags of wet foam out of my 222!! Any info I can give you to help just let me know.

The rubrail will be black.  The bottom is going to get black bottom paint but will not come up on the green sides.  The cap is white.  Thanks.
