Aquasport "no wood" hulls and deep vee
« on: August 31, 2009, 04:44:43 AM »
I have two questions for the "experts" here:

1) Which, if any, Aquasports had no wood in the stringers OR transom?

2) Which year did the Aquasport 22-2 hulls change from deep vee to the modified vee's?

Welcome aboard powrguy  :!:  :!:
The stringers were always wood-free and after Genmar bought the company was when they began using a poured transom - post '92.

How about the hull design; when did the older 22-2 style deep vee become the shallower modified vee (Osprey-style?)?  Did that also occur AFTER Genmar or prior?  Seems that the older style (I had a 1978 222CCP) was very deep, and the newer Osprey-styles seemed like modified vee.  I don't know what year the hulls on the 222 were changed, and that's what I was wondering.

thanks for the reply

The modified V preceded the CCP. I think your 78 model was the first year, if I'm not right I know one of the CCP guys will jump in and set me straight.

The Flatties and near flatties were first (maybe there was a semi-V in there about the same time), then the 12 degree, as you refer to as Osprey, then the CCP.  With the CCP came an off-shore worthy boat we didn't have until then, at least not in a Center Console model - nice high gunwales all around and a 20 degree deadrise.  Then the folks at Genmar took the best of both and combined them into the newer versions - deeper Vs and higher gunwales then their predecessors.

Okay, Rick, thanks.

I suspect that the old 222CCP I had (I'm remembering it as a 1978, but it could have been a 1976) had high front, low sided toward the stern.  I remembet the tip of the bow at the stem to the keel seemed to stand about 4 feet tall or more; a super rough water boat to me.

Now, I'm looking at a mid-80's model CCP hull, and trying to compare the designs as to how it would be in the same conditions.  As far as wood in the hull, I suspected the transom is wood-cored, but the stringers would all be non-wood.

thanks for the input.

I remember asking the "wood or no-wood" question about my own rig a couple of years ago.  I was told that my deck and transom contain wood - 1996 Osprey 200.  If that's correct, then the poured transoms didn't begin until post '96.

Hoping seabob will chime in.

I know my 230 is wood and it's a '92 so it was after that and Genmar owned the line then.
