29' Express
« on: August 29, 2009, 08:57:34 PM »
Hey there, potential Newbie here.

Trying to sell my 36' Stamas Express and downsize to something smaller and more efficient.  Do 3 or 4 trips to the Bahamas from Stuart, FL each year and I'm getting tired of burning 3 - 400 gallons of fuel each time.  Sooooooooooo, I've been looking.

Thought about a 30ish outboard express such as Wellcraft, Pursuit, Grady and Stamas.  Plenty around, and I'm sure I could be happy with any of them.  While looking I also at peaked at a few 30ish inboards like Pursuit, Proline and Tiara.  I stumbled upon a late 80's 29' Aquasport Express with a tower online and instantly fell in love with the look of that boat.  Seems like decent cabin accommodations, a huge cockpit, and with the 11 foot beam, a very large 29 footer.

So tell me the good the bad and the ugly.  Any problems with stingers, water intrusion, or hull deficiencies whatever?  I can fix engine and mechanical stuff and would expect to do so with a 20+ year old boat.  What I don't need are transoms falling apart etc.  Also how do they ride?  Wet at all?  Any concerns on taking one across the Gulf Stream on a 125 mile trip?

Please guys, honest real world opinions, and if you ever need any info about the Treasure Coast of Florida or the Northeast Bahamas, consider me a resource.

Well, worked for Stamas from '00-'06, Wellcraft/AS from '94-'00.

Maybe I can help.  Built many of those 36s, later 37s...370 Express.

Welcome aboard killin time  :!:  :!:
There have been a bunch of the 286 & 290 Express Fisherman for sale in the past 2 years with the gas prices soaring for a while.  We do have a few members who own them and hopefully they'll chime in shortly.  AS made a 270 also.  I've always thought those models to be the ultimate fishing machines with some good creature comforts to boot.
