Running and Livewell videos
« on: August 25, 2009, 12:26:55 AM »
Took these yesterday.  I thought I'd share them with everyone just for fun-

Video of Stern Mount Livewell while underway  (those are menhaden in the well which had been in there for several hours at this point.  The wells work great)

Here's a video of me driving the boat through a creek

Enjoy!

More pics and videos in my photobucket album.

Mid 30's around the corners, except for that one hard corner that almost threw my camera man overboard-  low 30's.  WOT straightaways (41-42mph).  Good times.  I can actually get in there tighter than that, I just didn't want to have any more proof of my recklessness.  The wells help the boat not cavitate or slide in the corners.  Pretty neat.

Those look great. Did you build them yourself?  How did you install/attach them to the hull?

Thanks!  I didn't build them, they came off of Luv2FlyCessna's 19-6.  They were kind of flimsy, especially the lids and caps, so I added extra layers of glass inside of the boxes and on the lids and caps (bezels), and gelcoated.  Installing them was tricky because I added an extra layer of wood to the stern when I built up the transom, so they no longer would mount flush.  I cut out some wood to fill in the gap caused by the extra layer, glassed the wood, mounted the wood to the boxes, then they fit flush... but they needed lots of filler around the edges.  It was a real project.  I mounted them through the transom with long S/S bolts and lots of 5200.  With the extra glass I added and the through bolts, my drunk a-hole friends can now use them as swim ladders w/o me worrying they're going to rip off.  Even after all that... some cracks have developed around the edges where the boxes meet the stern/transom, so this off season I plan on glassing them in (do it right!).

The boxes originally had a bunch of little angled holes in them... well that didn't work too well as water would tend to empty out of the boxes when you were running, so I filled them all in, added a PVC pickup tube that comes out of the bottom of the boxes about 1/4" and shaved an angle so they would pick up water as I ran.  There are valves on the tubes, and in the video, the valve is only about halfway open because there's just too much water spraying out fully open!  Added two overflow holes at the waterline as well.  That way water is always in the boxes while you're running or at rest.  I love them, and baitfish stay frisky all day.
