200 XF "sea trials"

Put the 200 XF in lake Tarpon yesterday afternoon for her first "sea trails".  Everything was good except I have some engine trouble.  Only turning up to 2000-2100 RPM.  Other than that I love how she sits in the water and the ease of getting around the boat.

Looks good   Having an Osprey AND an Explorer is the best of both worlds though.
My Osprey is having engine problems right now too and TMD at http://www.themarinedoctor.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl thinks it's just dirty carbs or throttle plates out of line so that is a cheaper fix then what I had imagined.

Not sure whats up with the motor.  It runs and idles a tad rough and has a slight miss along with the lack of power.  It had been sitting for some time although I thought I had prepped it for long term storage.  I think the carbs need cleaning.  My buddy thinks it's ignition.  I feel it could be a combination of the two.  I hope I don't have to buy ignition parts since Force parts are getting spendy.  I plan on troubleshooting it tonight.

Have you checked compression? If its a little low try the seafoam to decarb. If its still low that might be okay as long as all cylinders are pretty much equal. How's the spark? You should get at least 7/16" on all plugs.

Going to check the compression tonight.  Should be good since the power head has little time on it.  At least I hope it's still good :)  Then I'm planning on checking the spark after that.  I picked up a air gap type spark tester last night and I'm itching to try it out!  I hope I find something simple.

I found great compression and spark.  Checked the timing and fuel flow too.  I think it's running very rich so I guess I'll look at the floats next.

When's the last time it's had fresh fuel, not just a few gallons added to the old stuff?

I had a lot of fuel issues after boat was sitting for a long time. I personally had a lot of trash in the tank which would not be a problem until I had the rpm's up over 2000. The pressure would build up at the pickup tube (40 gal. stainless tank) and it caused the motor to drop in rpm's. I put a glass filter before water separator so I could see what was coming through the line. I also had problems with primer bulb going flat. It could be something simple like that, which drove me crazy because of my inexperience with marine issues. Capt. Bob is right on...Drain the tank completely if you can, and fill it with non-ethanol. Your idea of cleaning the carbs wouldn't hurt either.
       I also had sporadic problems with bad grounds in the ignition because my motor is an 88' Johnson 140 and it sat around for awhile. I hope you get it figured out soon. Good Luck!

When's the last time it's had fresh fuel, not just a few gallons added to the old stuff?

It has a completely new fuel system including tank, hoses, filters, etc with 24 gallons of fresh fuel in it.  Unfortunately I can only get ethanol fuel, so I added some Stabil for ethanol to it to be safe.

Also I'm getting a puddle of black oily stuff on the floor under the exhaust snout.  Must be excess fuel running out the exhaust.

I thought I had a seal leaking because mine was doing the same thing and the mechanic told me just what you said.
