Making New 19-6 Badges
« on: August 22, 2009, 11:04:42 AM »
So I have been piecing together my two badges to make one complete one.  I have every pieces from both of them and I need to either make the U and the T or if SOMEONE has those two pieces they could send them to me for a set off badges.

All in all I had about 10 pieces to put back together but still need the U and the T

When I made my mold I had to fabricate the tail of the A and part of the T.  Made it out of resin with heavy cabosil mixed in.

Cool thanks for the tip Rickk there are two Aquasports in town with badges that are in better shape them mine one is being sold and the other isnt so im tryin to get in touch with them to see if I could use one to make the mold  if so i'll go that route first. But we'll see :thumleft:   That's all that's left is the U and the T and its ready.  Do you think fiberglass bondo would work?

Hey Chris, I think jimct used bondo to fill in the missing sections. My only question is how much are they going to run? The next question is who's first?LOL

you will be second and as far as price well lets see how much the plastic cost it looks like i'll have enough to make at least 10 pairs for around 60 bucks for the rtv and resin so if i need to make all 9 pair for you guys pay for shipping and a few bucks and will call it square.

Way to be proactive Chris.  Put me down for a pair when they become available; I'd have no problem giving you what they're worth, and considering you can't just buy em' off the shelf somewhere...  8)

You go it Badon so far you're third on the list im finishing the template today and them the mold when the rtv comes in should be a week or so till i have the first pair's out.  The guy I've talked to says the best way to get long life out of any plastic is to paint it he does sell uv "proof" plastic but its clear and once you add pigment to it it becomes the same as all the rest of the material he sells when it comes to uv resistant.  So i'll pop out the sets and hit them all with two light coats of fusion plastic paint so they'll have something on them but if you dont want me to touch them with paint specify that when i ask for your addresses.  I'll post pics tonight or tomorrow of my progress.

Hmmm... interesting.  I know UV resistant cable ties are black as opposed to the natural "white", and they're made out of some kind of plastic.  That probably helps none, but...

Thanks for the effort, it's definitely appreciated

The company I use to work for leased an area of land to a cell phone tower company. Don't claim to know all of the details but...
the tower erection crew used vinyl tape to secure different cables. The stuff was called Scotch 88. They claimed it would outlast a cable tie and that some guys even  wrap it around the tie to increase its UV resistance?
Any electrical guys here ever use it?

I use it... only cause it's on the shelf in my store.  :)  I'm not really an electrical guy, but I'll sell it to you all day.

Whoa! At that price, I can see why.
Overpriced or really good? The tower guys swore by it.

Uh... both.  I think we post prices like that to scare off customers... that's the only reason I can think of

Not to sure what I need electrical tape for but looks like some good stuff, and some black plastics are better resistant to uv's like polypropylene (trap rope) why I don't know maybe absorbing the light is better than reflecting it in the case.  I asked my grandfather that question many years ago "why is trap rope is black" and he actually told me they tried every color under the rainbow before black and nothing worked as well as black and white was the worst go figure. But I think when it comes to this plastic which is similar to abs that pigment will actually lower the uv resistance. That's what the owner has told me anyways. So tried fiberglass bondo and it does not want to stick to the mold that well tried regular bondo same result so one more option then I will try to reason with this gentleman that is selling his 19-6 in town to take his one intact badge and give him two new ones we'll see.

Yeah, I remember that it was hard to get stuff to stick to the original.
