couple pics before the deck goes in...

started making the cap on the rear. going to do a door between the knees rather than taking a false bulkhead all the way across to the sides

Wow....love those fat longitudinals. Going the extra mile. VERY strong. My old Simmons Sea Skiff was laid out exactly the same. The transom is sweet too...like the taper, for toe room down under.

This rebuild is and has been a pleasure to see evolve. Thanks for sharing.

I bet it feels good everyday when you're done and your work looks as good as that. :salut:
Don't forget that your poly tank will expand and swell more than an aluminum one. I had a buddy replace his aluminum with poly in an old bayliner I helped him rebuild and him being cheap used 3/8 ac ply for the sole. Summer comes along and his floor swelled up enough to pull the tabs off where someone( who shall go nameless) didn't grind enough. We ended up cutting the whole thing out and adding foam on top of the stringers then lammed a new sole  so that tank could have enough room.
The way yours looks I don't think you will have that problem.
Looking good, getting closer everyday!

thanks guys. tank has an inch all the way around and plenty of room to the top of the deck. scrap corecell cleats are going to hold it in position along with a few spots of 5200 and some sort ofstraps going across the top. what you cant see is the "coffin" under it. sheet of 1/4" ply glassed on both sides shimmed to the hull curves and tilted forward some to hit the pickups. should be plenty of room for expansion... longitudinals are 1x4 clear fir for the seams of the plywood deck to rest rather than making a hundred butt blocks, plus strength..

Clean work.  My only suggestion would be to make the back cap wider... gives you more room for stuff (pumps, filters, etc).

ya i thought about it rich, but id rather have the room inside the boat. its about 10" wide at the top. ill have a nice big bilge hatch right in front of it, and another door for that section to get to rigging and crap...

Did you make the hatch lips or buy them?

^ made em. ive  got one over the fuel tank fittings that ill make a clear lexan hatch for, this is gonna be screwed down and sealed so its semi permanent. and i made one about 20x22 or so for the bilge. gonna rely on a seal and tight latch(es) to keep water out. i took some 3 inch wide 1708 and layed up 4 layers, offsetting the joints in the corners so the corners dont get built up, then glued em to the underside and glassed with 2 more progressive size layers of 1708. ill see if i can get a pic up...i wanted to buy some, but it was $$ for ncie ones and i hate those damn plastic ones

Boats looking good!
I've been pricing fiberglass hatches too and its crazy what they want for them. Someone has to have a drain channel mold or drain channel we can buy.
My buddies boat (a 26ft Goldline he built) has a few of the cheap plastic hatches in the deck and they are garbage, cracking after just a few months.
What are you thinking for your layout and hatches on your forward casting platform?

tank in

matt heres the hatch lips, pvc pipe clamps held it while the glue cured.

heres how  they got laid up, but with 4 layers, gotta offset the joints so the corners dont get built up.

then 2 more layers going from the edge of the lip out onto the undersid eof the deck. ending up with 6 layers total.

im not gonna do a platform up front anymore, im gonna put a bulkhead about a foot aft of where the cap is and run a small "deck" from bulkhead to cap. probably gonna cut that big lip on the cap so that the "deck" is on the same plane as the rest of the gunnel up there (in between the inner and outer lips) this will give a place for anchors and sh** and ill still have around 7 feet between the front of the console and the bulkhead for fishboxes..

Strong. Like the tank tie-downs and through bolts. Structural strength on the bedding, and the frames.....good stuff.
