daytime

next project

just using that t top for a pattern. going to put a nidacore hardtop on top of the sides...
thats 20mm prelaminated nidacore sides by the way, and half inch ab marine for the front. quicker and easier to build a big door in the front with wood.

I hadn't been following your build in a while.  I just read about your dad.  I'm so sorry to hear that.  I know from experience there is little anyone can say to hep with such a painful loss. Tuesday marked the 17 years ago to the day that I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer and it still hurts but time does help.  I was only 24 at the time and it totally changed the course of my life.  To this day I still miss his "stamp of approval" on my many projects.  I know my dad would have been proud and I am certain your dad is proud of you.  You are doing a fantastic job on this build.  I'm sure you learned much from him and that will stay with you for the rest of your life.  When you get your flat back out on the water for the first time your dad will be there right beside you.  Keep up the good work.

Wing speaks words of wisdom. My father passed 19 months ago and it is definitely tuff. But there are also days when remembering him makes me happy.  One day at a time my friend.

Ok..That makes sense...My 222 is a 1987 and the bottom gelcoat was in very good shape after I sanded the bottom paint off (last time I do that!), prepped sprayed new gelcoat over the old gelcoat..no epoxy..I do not have much experience with gelcoat and Awlgrip. I'm working with an experienced fiberglass guy that told me the same as you said, that Alwgrip is ok on the bottom. just can't leave it in the water for long periods of time. Just asking..Looking Good...

I'm thinking about an Awlcraft color for the hull called Bright Atlantic Blue Metalic..Have you ever worked with this paint..I'm told is hard to work with..
I saw this color on a Jupiter and really liked it...

thanks guys...

scott thats a 21' barcone, chine up its almost identical to a seacraft but the bottom is different, only has one strake and kind of a reverse chine thing goin on.

sitting in that boat is a banks monster exhaust for a 2nd gen dodge cummins longbed if anyone is interested by the way, just pulled it off my new old truck.

305king- ive worked with awlcraft before but only a couple times, it seemed to behave like awlgrip, but when cured its a softer paint. im sure you know you can wetsand/buff it afterwards, which is nice..

double taped in and out with 1700. i like using biax without the matt when glassing to smooth surfaces, plus it was only a dollar a yard. sometimes ill put 1708 matt side up to have that layer of matt to sand down, but this 1700 is really tight weave, probably not even gonna fill it. open edges of that nida will have strips of h80 divinycell glued on and radiused, then wrapped in 1700. i find that much quicker and easier than cutting cells out and filling with whatever then rounding off and wrapping like ive seen some people do.

scott heres that other boat. not a bad looking hull but needs stringers and everything. thinking about chopping the sides down and making a flatty one day. i just bought it for the trailer pretty much.

Man, the pilothouse really makes the boat come to life   .  I've always liked the idea of a pilothouse.  One day I'll have one on my rig.

Lookin' great!  :thumleft:

Looks good.  Being in Tampa, I see boats shaped like these AS's all day, everyday...not like this one though! Glad to see something different...

layed up the topside of the hardtop this afternoon. 2 layers of 1700. built a jig out of 2x4s and styrofoam shaped to a 1 3/4" crown in the middle. then clamped the outside edges down under a 90degree batten to keep em nice and straight (gravity didnt do it for me)

using a product called plascore. nidacore can kiss my you know what. seems better quality and has more cells per sq in. than the nida. well see how it goes.

i usually do the bottom side of a crowned piece first because jigs are easier to build but i wanted to have the bottom clean for a router to take material out to the depth of the top skin so i can lay in pvc rigging tubes, then glass them over. half round pvc will go in the corners of the house and go up to the pipe inside the top. then down into the console part.

looks like alot of curve here, but its an illusion.
