Hey, Duramaxes are bad a$$ too.  That's what I originally wanted (mainly because of the Allison tranny), but they are hard to come by - found a better deal on the ford.

i love mine! i was about to say something about ford transmissions: I had a 94 Bronco with the overdrive and the only thing in went to more than gas stations was transmission repair shops. 3 in 6 years!

Rich, whats your mileage like in the truck? i heard alot of '08 super duty owners complaining about the "new" gearing ford put in them which resulted in poor gas mileage. Thought i remembered reading about them offereing different gear packages, but cant remember if thats accurate or not.... anyway,, good looking truck.

Thanks guys.  The gearing is actually not the cause of the poor mileage, it's the DPF (diesel particulate filter) - which catches the carbon - or black smoke.  The carbon builds up over time, and the way the DPF is "cleaned" is by injecting fuel into it - decreasing mileage.  Stock around town mileage is 10/12 depending on driving style with 14 on the highway.

If one so chose, one can remove that wonderful filter and reprogram the ECU so it no longer tries to "regenerate".  That is not legal (kinda like taking the Cat off a sportscar) - but if one removes it the truck gets about 14 around town, 17 on the highway.

Drove it in fact, to your neck of the woods this weekend and sea trialed an Aquasport in Charleston Harbour.
For you Ford guys: 2003 DMax 22.1mpg, average speed 64mph. That's from Tally to Palm City to Jax to Mt. Pleasent SC and back to Tally.
