1970 19-1 issues
« on: July 13, 2009, 08:47:08 AM »
Just picked up this boat, looking for some suggestions on fixing some issues.
First of all the rear portion of the deck, basically from the console back, needs to be replaced.  The top skin is good but the core is shot.  I'm thinking of cutting the perimeter and lifting the top skin off in one piece to be re-used on top of the new deck, sound do-able?

And this boat has no storage under the deck other than the box in the very front of the boat.  I'm going to at least add an insulated fish box in the back 1/3 of the boat, and will try to get a gas tank that fits under the deck.  Anyone ever do that with this model or should I leave the tank under the console?  It'd be nice to free up some storage space in the console and get the tank out of there.

Last- the front raised portion of the deck is still solid but it has 'sunk' down, looks like the only thing holding it up was the storage box but whatever was supporting that from underneath has gone away, now the box won't drain properly and the deck isn't exactly flat anymore.  Any suggestions on fixing that without ripping the entire front deck out?

As capt bob says this post is useless without pictures!
If that front area is sagging in all likelyhood the whole floor needs to go. Let us see what you are talking about and that will help more than anything.

pics coming soon-
the front floor issue, well it really does seem like the actual deck is fine, no delamination or cracking, sounds solid, it's just sagging at the back corners of the storage box.  I'm sure the box & consequently the deck too has dropped about 1/2" over time, the drain at the box is now lower than the thru hull fitting on the side of the boat by about the same amount, always have some water trapped in there.
