Here are some better photos of the underside and the plate with the serial number.

Yeah, definitely caught my eye - how far forward does the pad go?
BTW, it was mighty nice of the previous owner to stamp the info into the steel for safe keeping

The pad goes all the way to the front of the hull. I went out and checked. I decided I really needed to see what was under those bracket so... a flat bar, a block, and a little persuasion...
This looks really depressing! So out came the dental picks. Remarkable the wood is hard. The is some surface moisture, but the core is solid.
Other side
BTW has anyone used CPES? Clear Penetrating Epoxy Solvent. It is suppose to bind with rotten wood and make it a solid mass. The rotting is suppose to stop and the stuff binds with the fiber.

I was thinking about using this on my sole, but decided to go for replacement.

Must have been the only (or best) way the previous owner could find to attach the transom to the liner - wonder why fiberglass wasn't used?

Yeah Rick, I guess the guy knew how to fabricate SS but not fiberglass. Too bad. Instead of resolving the issue he just covered it. I assume the info that is stamped into the bracket is correct. However, I noticed in the 1971 literature the transom is rated for 125hp and mine says 110hp? I wonder if there was a change...or just better data to support a higher hp?
Well, I think my boat must be a 1969 because (if the literature is correctly identified) the model in the ad has the same in deck well. Here is the image I am talking about... If you look closely you can see a stainless rivet and the outline of the well cover. My boat has the exact stainless rivet.

My boat has all the same details; rod holders, piece of wood in the bow, reversible seat, grab rail. Maybe they stopped making the well for some reason. Someone before me punched a hole in the well to drain into the bilge (another niece piece of work).

Seen that "pad" before, I think Kackzi had one? Should be a cool rebuild!
Good luck.

Hey Garrett
Got a question what kind of shape are your badges in? mine are not good
I had pretty much figured I would have to go with vinyl but....... lol
but if I could find one good enough to pull a mold off of and you got somebody local that could do it I would pay for the mold

No problem. I have one that I think we could pull a mold from. I was planning on asking JimCt for his recipe. I have been visiting LilRichard's rebuild again. I am considering going to a full flatback with a porta bracket like LR. Those brackets are REALLY nice. Expensive, but nice. May be overkill for my boat..and there aren't many flats up here...more saltwater creeks.

Great just let me know what you need
Yeah I thought about that because I am pulling motor and reglassing the transom anyway I had about a 24' Grady go around me the other day he went to my stern and was pretty close ( plenty of room to go around the bow we were drifting flounder fishing ) got my feet wet the I got to looking at the $$$$$ for the bracket and new cables for the controls and I don't usually were shoes when I fish anyway my feet dried off and I was ok lol

Garrett what help me to inspect the inside of my in deck fuel tank was a fiber optic camera with an led light first I drained the tank but the downside to my tank is there is baffling so it was harder to see past them but it was long enough so i could actually go around them. I'm sure I didn't see 100% of the inside but the 99% that I did see looked like the first day it was installed. So I should be alright until I do the full resto hopefully next year.

Glad my rebuild is helpful. I would recommend closing it in as you are thinking - there are a lot of benefits (most already mentioned). Another big benefit is backing down on fish - you can run that thing hot in reverse without putting water over the back!
One thing to think about, depending on your needs, you might be able to go with a little less setback - which will help your center of gravity. Just set your tilt stop so the motor cannot tilt all the way forward (hitting the transom).

LilRichard, I really like your rebuild. Looks very solid. I don't think I am going to go to that level of finish but would like to approach 85%. I have been wondering if you have an Excel spreadsheet (or Word doc) of the steps and materials used in your restoration.
Or maybe someone knows of a good spreadsheet for budgeting. I am trying to create a budget for the project and if anyone out has done one already that would be a big help.
I know to add at least 30% to projected expense
Thanks,
