Another 22-2

SPLASH  :!:

Finally, after two years of blood, sweat, tears and lots of cash I launched my Aquasport on July 5, 2009.  :D  :D

Here are some shots.
Looks good on the trailer.  Even matches my truck.

Ease it on back now.

She floats!

NO, that is NOT a grab rail.

Time for a little shake down.

A little jaunt with the family.

And back on the trailer.

All in all I am very pleased with the hull and engine configuration.  The scuppers are not as affective at keeping out water as I hoped.  I'll need to figure something out to hold the flaps shut during the hole shot and powering down.  The rotory steering isn't going to cut the mustard.  I'm going to spring for a hydraulic system.  The combination of trim tabs and PTT will take some practice to master.  However, with tabs and trim down it pops up on plane right away.

I have not installed my Lowrance GPS yet so I could only guess at the speed.  So with just a few accessories I'll be ready to fish. The T-Top is in the design phase so it will be uncovered for a while.

So does this mean it is time to retire this thread?

Thanks to JMM and Joel for hosting this site and thanks to all of you who offered your advice and moral support.  I doubt my ultimate success without your help.  :D

Way to go MD!!! She looks really good! How bad was the wet sanding and buffing? I'd really like to see some running shots! Oh by the way, this site is sponsored by FGCI not bateau2.com.

I'm sorry.  I kept my rebuild thread on BBC where I started it.  I wanted to you guys to see another Aquasport brought back from the grave so I copied the thread over.  Had a senior moment and forgot to modify for the intended audience.

I'm not completely finished.  I am building a T-top and changing to a hydraulic helm.  So, there will be more porn to show off the BLING.

Never did any wet sanding.  I had so much work to do I just couldn't bring myself spend that much time and elbow grease.  I'll get back to the final finish, I promise.

Yes Sir.  I'll post some pics later (system problems right now).  Feel free to browse my Photobucket account.  Follow the link in my signature panel.

Transom Bulkhead

Top View - 2 knee braces tying the tansom to the bulkhead and stringers.

Hatch Configuration

The console is a restoration of the original.  It was beat up pretty bad so I beefed it up with plywood core.

After:

I have since replaced the plastic wheel with a 13" stainless wheel.

Enjoy.

just a thought on the steering system, I put a Teleflex No Feed Back system, 4.2 turns lock to lock, on my 23' Robalo / 200 hp, steers effortlessly, let go of the wheel at speed & tracks straight, very close to hydraulic steering without the extra parts.  Just saw that you have a closed transom though maybe a cable won't work on your setup???

Actually, I had one of those, had to go hydraulic.  With the chase tubes and the closed transom there was just too much and to many  bends.

Any one need a new Teleflex No Feed Back system with 17' cable?  I'll make you a good deal.

I might be interested in that!  I put the NFB system in my Robalo, but the little Aquasport still has a really old helm in it.  Going to have to measure my cable, I've got an odd 1970 19-1 model with the console mounted all the way up against the casting deck, your cable might fit just right.

That would be great!  I just measured the cable.  It is 16' from the helm to the tilt tube nut.  I think they sold it as a 17'.  Hope that will work for you.

I think that cable will work, mine measures out to 16' 8" from helm nut to steer tube nut give or take a few inches, worth trying at least.  Does your cable have the quick release pin at the helm or a nut?  Either way, get in touch with me if you're still interested in selling, I've sent you a pm.
