New Member any 19-1 owners out there?
« on: June 20, 2009, 02:35:20 PM »
Hello from the first state
I just bought ( read Stole ) a 1971  19-1 with and 1983 115 Johnson on a galv. trailer
Have owned boats all my life from a 13' whaler to a 16" starcraft grew up on a 20' outrage ( Dads )
Boat is in really good shape for a nearly 40 yr old hull no soft spots in the deck but the deck up under the casting platform is gone. boat sat on the trailer for about 6 yrs and was outside looks like something built a nest in the drain for the front fish cooler and along came winter and froze the water and broke the fitting and all the water ran into the space and rotted out the deck under the platform
what I would really like to see is a shot of under the deck if anybody has done a rebuild and any suggestion for what to do under the platform short of doing a total rebuild of the deck ( this boat is in good enough shape to fish with now and I want to fish. will post pics soon  )
thought about filling with foam leveling and covering with starboard because the hatches to access under the platform are not made to allow a full size human (and I ain't that big 5'10" 190 ) to do much under there and I thought that the foam would support the starboard across the stringers because it would have to go in in narrow strips.
Really Glad I found this site any suggestions would be greatly appr.
bye for now
Tony

Now that is a neat hull! Whats the inside like? Is it original or have you changed it much?

Thanks for the comments we fished it yesterday for the first time had 4 of us in it (me 2 of my sons and one of there friends ) I liked the way the boat handles and fishes.
I have no plans to change anything major but if I have to cut out the front platform to fix the deck under it I was thinking of dividing the storage under the platform into 3 compartments along the line of the 19-6 but that was just a thought to make it a little more user friendly the one thing is I would like to do is return the battery to under the front platform to get it out of the stern of the boat but the org. placement was very hard to get to I would like to set it up a little different
But this is all just me rambling on right now I am going to use it

Thanks its getting there little at a time while I fish
here are a few but I will take a few more I still have to work on the transom it is rock solid but one of the motors that was on it was a clamp motor and it looks like they really had that thing cranked down and slpit the glass I have sealed it up for now but in  August when the fishing slows I am going to snatch the motor and fill and reglass the transom got a lot of little patches to do the console to.
I like the bilge pump set up you did I was thinking of doing something like that on mine the guy that owned it before stuck a pump in the splash well lot of good that dose

Actually Tony, I think it's a good idea to have one there and  one/two in the bilge. don't know why more don't do it. I'm going to add one on mine right there, in the middle of the waterway at the transom with an automatic switch. Because my deck is really water tight right now, if my boat sits in the water for two days or more and it rains, I'll have a pump to clear the deck since water shouldn't be able to reach the pump in the bilge .  It's really easy to disturb the self bailing capability on all boats that scuppers are close to the waterline, if it rains heavy , and those scuppers get under water, no more self bailing  . Used to have a hole in the center of the waterway in front of the transom(rain water would end up in the bilge) that I plugged and all the holes on my deck and gunwale, because I HATE having water down there(I think I have an obsession about this this) , but created a problem with rain water

I think I'm going to call it the first line of defense  8) And you can't have to many pumps   :salut:
