Hello all! I've been lurking on this website for a month or so, and after finding a little info. about the 246XF we decided to go with it and purchase one that was for sale locally. We have a lot of work on our hands but I believe this site should help tremendously with everyone's knowledge on here.  So far all we have been able to do is clean her out and empty all of the garbage out of there.  Tomorrow she will get a good scrubbing.  We know for sure that it needs to be repowered-were torn between going with doubles or just one big single.  Bassmonkey-How  did your boat perform with the yammy on it?  We also plan on painting it, as you can see in the pics, it desperately needs some fresh paint.  And we are gonna go from there.  Any input on potential issues or concerns would be greatly appreciated.  Here are the pics before cleaning.

Thanks for the greeting cap!  And you are right about the PO liking blue, the inside of the cabin is just as hideous!  Every major upgrade I make- pics will follow.  Here is a shot of the cabin.

Lots of room up front in the cabin - wish my 230 had a little more.
If I haven't already done so, let me welcome you aboard flushot  :!:  :!:

The PO must have either been a big fan of America or Superman.  :)  Nice Boat!  I see a W/A in my future...

"Oh say can you see..."

She has a nice cabin, with a bit of room.  Teak and white is what she needs.  There are flagpoles everywhere...

Enjoy her, and go for twin 200s, at least, maybe 225/250s.  Suzuki is my brand du jour.

Yeah, I'm def. gonna go with natural teak color and re-upolhster carpet and cushions.  Twin 200's would be nice. Anybody have pics of there interior cabins and what they did w/ there's?

I think Max HP (check the plate) on your 246XF is 280.  I would be careful going above twin 150s on this boat if you want to get her insured....

Twin 140 Zukis would be sweet and match the nameplate HP on the money!

Hello BassMonkey:

I'm new to world of Aquasport having recently purchased a 1987 250 Express Fisherman (see pics on Aquasport Discussion - "1987 250 Express Fisherman").  Mine is powered by an Evinrude 225 of the same year as the boat and I know that I will eventually have to re-power her.  The 300 Suzuki installed on your boat looks great!  How does she perform?  What is the fuel burn?  What prop are you using?  You mentioned that you got a good deal.  Who was your source for the motor and installation?  Any other information you can offer will be appreciated.  Thanks.

Regards,
Duffel

HOLY COW!  The PO must have found a special on blue paint and whorehouse red velvet!     Hopefully that's the only crazy thing he did to it!  I just found THREE holes in my transom UNDER the water line vinyl stripe!  Talk about a LAZY PO!

I've been a lurker for some time but now I'm hooked. I have an 83 246 obxf with a 2003 225 optimax. I have replaced much of the wiring in between seasons. I think next year it will remain out of the water for some paint and other repairs. Love the boat except for the notched transome, but that is starting to flex a little and will need to be done soon. I like all the info the site has t offer and will get pics of my boat up soon.

here's a ggod one, my helm has a switch for a forward bilge pump but there is no pump, no access port, and no wires to the switch. want to add one but can't see where the discharge hose would go. I was gonna have it discharge where the ice box drain is but it looks like the stringer is in the way. I removed the ice box and replaced it with a tackle holder, 4 drawer planos. worked great, will post pics when I find them.
