Josegaspar posed the question "who has the most accurate weather report" This made me remember the old sailors qoute "Red sky in the morning sailors take warning, red sky at night sailors delight"  I also remembered there were others having to do with mares tails and mackeral scales but I could not remember all of them so ... after an exhaustive internet search, here are a few

Mares tails and mackerel scales, tall ships carry short sails

Mackerel skies and mare's tails, sailors furl their sails."

Hey Lynn, thanks for the post.  I remember many of those growing up in NE Massachusetts and always asking my dad before we went tuna fishing out of Newburyport, MA.  I've decided to pull the Ace out of my sleeve and connect with my brother.  He is a retired Air Force meteorologist and he's gonna give me the skinny on how to interpret all of the different forecasts.

Have you decided on a name for the boat yet??????
